My wife Asus laptop is running Windows 7 x64 with all updates current. For some reason we're unable to install Adobe Flash Player.... Everything goes fine (file downloads and opens) until the Installer Screen pops up.. It just stays black and blank...

I found this info at Adobe Forums but don't completely understand the instructions after number 1.

Any help / detailed step by step instructions are appreciated
Can't install Adobe Flash Player. install box is just black/grey

Jeromie Clark Aug 1, 2014 7:20 PM (in response to jetenduro) Yeah, that's no good. Please help us fix this by collecting the logs so that we can understand what's failing.

Windows

  • Download the Adobe Install Helper (AIH) installer from get.adobe.com/flashplayer
  • Open a command prompt and change directories to the location where the AIH installer is saved to
  • At the prompt, run AIH in DEBUG mode:
<AIH_Installer_File_Name.exe> /debug
(e.g. install_flashplayer_11x32ax_chrd_aih.exe /debug)

  • The AIH log file, host.developer.log, will be created in the same directory/location where the AIH installer was saved to (step 1)
  • Flash Player install log file:
    • C:/Windows/System32/Macromed/Flash/FlashInstall.log
    • C:/Windows/SysWOW64/Macromed/Flash/FlashInstall.log

After downloading the AIH you open a command prompt: run cmd.exe

To change directory to where the file was downloaded: in the command prompt window type cd followed by the path, example: cd "C:\Users\example\Downloads" and press Enter

To run the AIH in debug mode: in the command prompt window type the file name followed by /debug, example: install_flashplayer_11x32ax_chrd_aih.exe /debug and press Enter

HTH :)

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
It is unclear which browser your attempting to install flash player in,
If your windows updates are up to date you would be using ie11 and it has flash player built into it there is nothing to download updates to it come through the windows update system,

You would need to make sure it's enabled,
Gear symbol on the top right and Manage add-ons,
Toolbars and Extensions on the top left column and on the Bottom left column under Show,
Make sure it's set to Show All add-ons,
verify Shockwave Flash object is Enabled,
Cheers.

Isn't that only on Windows 8.1?

Googled and found this:
The preinstalled version of Adobe Flash isn't supported on Internet Explorer 11 running on either Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 with SP1. However, you can still download and install the separate Adobe Flash plug-in.

I believe when Microsoft refers to the Pre-installed version of flash it's referring to if it was install on a previous version of ie10-9-8
So yes ie11 comes with it's own version of shockwave flash object included,
Cheers.

Which might actually cause an issue because if a prior version still existed when ie11 is downloaded and installed only the prior version would be listed in Uninstall a program and that would be the older or previous version that needed to be uninstalled now.
ie11's version would not be as easy to uninstall.

I feel confused. Maybe you are correct but think I have to actually see if for myself first to believe it. And so far I haven't. Last time I set up a new Win 7 machine I didn't install Flash so it runs the HTML5 player as default. But I have to admit I never checked if there was a disabled Flash add-on. But I will next time I see that system ;) Thanks for the info.

The last version that did not come with flash is ie10
Flash shows up in the control panel still but not in uninstall a program with ie11,
So that's why it gets a bit weird attempting to re-install flash in ie11 = regedit :/
Cheers.

There's also a standalone Shockwave player primarily for the gamers that can be installed.

Hmmm, never used 11, but from what I thought I knew, the built in flash was not for 7?
