Problems transferring pictures from SD card to computer

Hi all,
I am getting a corrupt file message whenever I try downloading my pictures from my SanDisk Extreme III SD card (that I use with my Nikon D80) using the built-in card reader on my HP 9262 desktop (i do not hook up my camera to the computer. I take out the SD card and insert it into SD card reader directly). Same thing happens with my other sd cards (SanDisk brand as well). Never had this problem with my previous XP-based machine. I checked my cards with my old machine, they work fine. I'm using Windows autostart program (picture viewer) to download, not any other proprietary software.
Basically, the files start transferring with no problem. The computer recognizes the card, even calls out which camera the card belongs to, and file transfer begins. But every so often (about every 15-30 pictures) I get a message saying that file so-and-so is corrupt. I get the option of trying to transfer again, cancel or do not transfer any corrupt files. I hit try again and the file transfers fine with no corruption at all. So the files do end up transferring in the end, but I have to baby-sit the process, which is not acceptable when I am trying to transfer hundreds of images.
System details:
Brand new HP 9262 (Intel i5-750, 6 gb RAM) with built-in card reader.
Windows 7 Home Premium
SanDisk SD cards (Extreme III and Ultra II). These are standard SD cards, not SDHC
Nikon D80 and Panasonic Lumix cameras (Extreme III card is formatted for the D80, and the Ultra II card for the Lumix)
Any advice/solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Sd read problem with windows 7 autoplay

Hi,

I am also having file corrupt errors on the SD card import function.
It doesn't matter in what app I use the import function.
It fails with a corrupt file error.

However, I can use Windows Explorer, select all, drag and drop to the target directory.
Works Great!

Something is wrong with the Win 7 import function for USB SD Cards.
Unless all of the new machines are shipped with outdated USB port drivers, I think the problem is a bug in 7.
I have a new Studio from Dell with the same problem.

It might be helpful to the forums users to try and duplicate the error before replying. And state how many test machines were used to try and duplicate the problem.

If your a new user or a novice, Windows 7 sucks! Experience users who have been struggling with Windows since its inception can usually figure things out from years of experience. Almost without thinking about the problem. New users and novice folks cannot. The excellent reviews appearing in various periodicals are written by experienced users. They generaly will not have the problems a new user will have. I work with new users, on a novice level, migrating from XP. To them windows7 is a nightmare, if they are using 7 for general media and documentation work.

Hey all,
I haven't tried again yet. Still need to snap a few more photos before trying the download again. I'll see if it happens again then. If it does, I'll try the suggestion from howielynn (thanks!).

I didn't see any driver updates from HP for my computer, so I can't go that route.

I do have the sneaking suspicion that its Windows 7 related. I did hear about similar issues with Windows Vista too. This may be a bug that Microsoft never heard about or couldn't address this time around. If it is an OS bug, hopefully Service Pack 1 (whenever it arrives) will fix it. I've had a couple of random crashes occur too, with no decipherable cause, so there are definitely issues (my machine is still mostly a blank slate. I have not added much in the way of software until I'm sure the system is stable. Only have Office and Firefox on for now). Problems are to be expected with a new OS, regardless of all the 'expert' fanfare. It'll take time for everything to be worked out. I just hope its sooner rather than later.
