Hello all hope everyone had a good weekend. My weekend project was trying to dual boot W7 and xp on 2 hard drives. Both OS are already installed on the hard drives. I downloaded Easy Bcd. And got xp to show up in the boot along with W7. W7 loads great but when I try to load xp it says that \NTLDR is missing or corrupt. I am stuck at this point. It says to load installation disk and repair. But which disk Xp or W7. Some help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Heather

Dont worry. Put only HDD with xp online and put Xp cd in drive and open recovery console by pressing R when the installer asks you to install xp fior the first time. Then select your xp partition, then type
fdisk /mbr
/fixmbr
/fixboot
and restart your computer.

ok This is what I did. I unplugged the drive that had W7 and started computer with the drive that has xp on it. I hit r to get to recovery console. The hard drive with xp was from another machine. I don't think it will be possible to use this for a dual boot

You could just format the drive and reinstall Windows XP from scratch.

Heather, did you happen to forget to add XP AND 7 to the boot list in EasyBCD?

The person I'm doing this for wants only 1 program to run that is in XP.(He lost the disk for the program) It will not run on W7. I guess he will either have to find the disk or run his Xp machine to.

If you moved XP HD to new hardware then you must run a Repair Install from booted XP CD to get it to start up. Ignore the first "R" given for repair, proceed as if to install until it finds an installation, then choose "R" for repair.

Run the XP Repair Install with Win7 HD unplugged. Set XP HD as first HD to boot in BIOS setup (after CD/DVD drive) before you begin.

With two HD's, it is better to boot via BIOS than configure a Dual Boot with Easy BCD 2.0. Once XP starts up, plug back in Win7 HD, set your preferred HD as first HD to boot in BIOS setup, then use the Fkey given on first bootup menu for one-time Boot Menu to boot the other HD instead.

If Win7 will not boot, unplug the XP HD and set Win7 HD as first HD to boot in BIOS setup, boot Win7 DVD Repair console or REpair CD, click through to Recovery Tools list to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots to repair the MBR and start Win7. It may need to be marked Active to work.

Once Win7 starts, plug XP HD back in and test the BIOS-managed Dual Boot by setting preferred HD to boot first in BIOS setup (after DVD drive), then trigger the other HD instead by tapping the Fkey for one-time Boot Menu.

greg you do rock..thank you so much!
