Hi and sorry for my terrible english \ american....
I can't get help from any german forum for this awful problem:

i bought a lianli pc-9 case to use the hotswap cage for 5 hdds for my backups.
I installed windows 7 x64 with bios-activated ahci. new chip-driver from intel and everything went fine, till i insert one more hdd. Then windows reboots without a bluescreen. If i drag a hdd off, everything ist fine and nothing unexpected happens.

I already tries to install the os with bios-activated ahci. I tried to install the os with bios-activated ide settings and use the microsoft registry hack to turn microsoft to install the driver, but nothing works. I am f..... desperated.

Heres my System:
Windows 7 x64 ultimate
Gigabyte GA EX-58 UD5
6 GB RAM
ATI 4890

Can anyone help me; i am at the end.......

Thanks for your help

You need to download and install the latest intel matrix storage manager software/driver if AHCI is enabled in your bios - what happens during installation of W7 is W7 installs the Intel driver, but for correct functionality you need to install the intel matrix storage manager after installation is complete if you dont it can cause problems - v 8.9.0.1023 - you could see if it works, as it will install with microsoft driver installed by replacing it - its the latest driver you may have already tried this - Im not sure if it will work as the microsoft driver worked for me with one drive, but its only a standard driver - good luck!

Thanks,

i read a lot, so i'll try the following:

1. update my bios to the latest beta bios
2. install from the scratch with only one installed new formatted blank hdd
3. with ahci or raid on in bios
4. choose the F6 function to install the newest intel chipset driver
5. after installation finished, I'll install the latest
Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager
6. when hotpluggin don't work I'll throw the whole damn thing out of the window....

Thanks for your recommendation; I'll let you know if it works...

Have you tried a different drive order to see if its the last drive causing the problem? You might find something in your motherboard manual.

when i installed win7 there were only one hdd in the cage

is it possible, that the hdd cage doesnt work?
anyway, i'll try to switch the hdd direkt with the sata cable and see if it works....even if it is highly improbable

Good idea, its always a good idea to narrow down the possibilities. I think its highly probable, but I lack experience, and still learning.
