I'm having an issue with my HDD it seems. Whenever I attempt to install/downland something relatively big, such as a game I'm met with Disc Volume Errors.

I'm using a SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb

The errors correct themselves upon restart, though I'm worried my HDD may be defective. I'll occasionally get bad files as well, though that may have been because of the faultily memory I had.

Hi and welcome

go to Samsung and download their HD diagnostic tool to check your HD

run memtest to ensure your current memory is ok

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Do you hear any clicking sounds? If so, that could be a drive failing.

So I was finally able to sort out my memory issue and finally able to get the EStool to run. The ESTool found no problems with my HDD, so it's likely a problem with windows since I installed it with the bad RAM. I tried to fix the problem at the suggestion of another forum. I used Chkdsk while in start up repair with the Installation CD and it did not work. In fact it caused an issue in which windows would fail to login my user profile. I fixed this by entering safe mode and change some stuff in registers, using a guide. I fear I'll have to reinstall windows now, which I really don't wanna have to do.

Well I tried that and I still get disc volume errors downloading files, although it did get rid of some corrupt files from a previous install. During the end of the process I was getting a message that my copy of windows was not genuine, until I activated it. This has happened numerous times in the past even randomly, any idea why?
