Is anyone experiencing problems with the September 2010 updates?

I download them, install them, and then restart as instructed.

When the PC reaches the "Welcome" screen, it displays the "configuring, don't turn off" screen and then progresses no further.

I have tried twice

Hi Jacee :)

I have tried to install them twice.

The first time:
I downloaded the updates and started the install process.
I went to bed.
I turned the PC on about 10 hours later and it hadn't installed them.

The second time:
I downloaded the updates and started the install process.
I waited for 30 minutes and there was no progress on the install.

We have been experiencing Internet/phone line problems.
It's possible, that the updates get corrupted, whilst they are being downloaded.

If no one else is experiencing problems, I guess they are getting corrupted, whilst they are being downloaded. :(

I have:
AMD Phenom 9750 Quad-Core (2.4 GHz)
8 GB of DDR2 RAM
WD 1 TB HDD
WD 1.5 TB HDD

When I first read this, I thought it was Ms. September. Need to think better thoughts :)

lol. :D

Install one update at a time, that way you cand find out which one is causing the problem.

Windows Installer Broken?

Thanks for your replies. :)

I selected the smallest update (the IE8 one) and I was unable to install it (same problem as above).
When I start in "Safe Mode", I see a message stating, "update configuration error".

I am also unable to remove "Windows Features", like "Windows DVD Maker".
I experience the same problem, that I experience with the updates.
When I start in "Safe Mode", I see a message stating, "remove feature configuration error".

The UAC no longer complains, when I start "Computer Management", or other system altering applications.
I checked the UAC settings and they haven't changed.

I have run:

  • sfc /scannow
  • AVG
  • Spybot S&D
  • a couple of other anti-malware programs
They all state, that no errors, viruses, etc. were found.

Could the Windows Installer be broken?

The Windows Error Report says, that my DHCP service failed to start.
I have reset the DHCP service and I'll see if that makes any difference.

Additional
As I suspected, the DHCP service had no effect (I can't see why it would've anyway).

Additional 2

The updates have successfully installed.

I ran Clam AV from my Ubuntu install and it found 3 Trojans (hidden in some backup files).
I'm not sure how they could run from that location, or how they even existed, since Firefox is supposed to delete its cache when I shut it down.

The network also ran perfectly, during the update download and install process.

Now, do I risk getting the NVidia update for my graphics card?
