Problems with playing any videos

Firstly, as I said in another thread, my sound does not work, I hear only loud crackling. Also, when playing any video, whether directly in WMP or on the web (YouTube, Viddler), it plays very slowly and jerkily, and often has pixellation, strange colors, etc. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, Realtek High Definition Audio (onboard sound), NVidia 8800GT card.

Seriously I thought this was supposed to be better than Vista, instead I've just destroyed my gaming PC by upgrading to Windows 7. I'm seriously considering going back to Vista at this point...

I ran the upgrade advisor before upgrading from Vista and it said everything was compatible.

Anyway, playing videos in VLC Media Player is fine (still no sound except crackling though). This problem seems to be with WMP and the browser video plugins. And then there's Media Center simply crashing my PC if I even think about launching it...

Have you checked your manufacturer's website for the latest drivers? ASUS just released drivers for my board about a month ago. Should check, and what not. If worst comes, re-install Windows 7, and then install drivers only. Put a few test videos in the folder, and test that way.

You've not provided enough information for us to help you out. Please give some specs and more details. Some thing telling me this is a sound card driver issue.

If you're going to complain about Windows 7, do it somewhere else. I'm running it 100% fine. No errors, its probably something YOU over-looked.

Haha ... Don't you know it's our lives on the line here unless we scramble to help him fix this problem before he changes his mind and goes back to Vista?:p

It's not necessarily our problem, we're kind enough to offer our help and time, but if he's going to make "threats" about going back to vista. I couldn't give an ounce of sympathy.

I'll I have to say is, reformat. Install nothing but your drivers. ONE AT A TIME. Install your motherboard drives, then restart. Check the sound, keep doing everything. Also, windows 7 has generic sound drivers, if those don't work, its something hardware conflicting, or some hardware that requires special software. Have you tried installing your software under Compatibility mode? Keep trying different things... I don't feel like wasting hours hunting down an answer, especially after you've worked an 18 hour shift, walking around, making sure punk kids don't steal stuff. =/

Sheesh, I don't recall forcing anyone to read this or post here. Anyway, I solved this for now, and yes it was a problem with Windows 7.

Agreed. Now do you mind telling us how you fixed it, so someone else searching for similar issues might find a resolution in your work?

Just a suggestion.
