Problems with "Priceless file"

Greetings,

I from time to time notice that if I have a screen shot, change the name of a file or do something of that nature the file becomes a "Priceless" file. Sometimes jpeg files seem to convert to "PriceLess" files.

I run adwcleaner and this seems to remove it on a temporary basis. I am using Firefox and IE but only a little on IE.

Any suggestions on what to do would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Smorton

Nothing there.

A search of the registry reveals a PriceLess name at HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2170375875-1460861520-2161273781-1000\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.\OpenWithProgids

However, I don't know what to do about it.

Thank you.

hello Smorton,

You can go to "Safe Mode", scan your PC with your AV and malwarebytes, see if it detects malicious program, then delete that priceless on your registry.

I ran AV and malwarebytes but not in safe mode. Would that make a difference?

Just delete it in the registry then?

Thanks

Yeah, it has a big difference running AV and malwarebytes in safe mode, because there is less programs running. Also, Malwarebytes performs better when run in safe mode.

I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials. I wonder if that is adequate?

I am not trying to start a new thread but I recently purchased ESET 2015 but have not installed it. I assume I need to remove MS security first.

Thanks

Well, I was going to do the above and I got the blue screen of death. I than ran MSE and malwarebytes in safe mode but nothing turned up.

I did not go into the registry and delete that file called "PriceLess" because I am a coward.

The blue screen on windows 7, does that ususally mean hardware conflicts?

Thanks again
