hey ppl i am new to these forums so hey.

well i got 4gb of 1066MHZ ram yesterday and when i installed it windows was saying only 2gb was useable so i unticked the 'use max mem' in msconfig and then all seemed fine.

the issue is that altho i have enabled memory re-map in my bios W7 is still not using all 4gb.onboard GPU is disabled

the avialable Ram i have is about 3111mb as ime typing this and 2349mb is free

i am competly stumped at this as i do not no what else to try, also yes i have 64bit

thanks

When you boot if you have a screen that shows how much memory your BIOS see's what does it show? If you don't see this screen you need to go into the BIOS to see it, generally f2 will get you there. If it shows 3.2 or less then your BIOS is reassigning portions of the memory and it need to be turned off in your BIOS Memory Mapping.

Because all modern GPU's share system memory.

if you can remove shared memory, can you also add RAM to shared memory? I've looked into this a little before but have had no luck finding hard results. Logically you should be able to go both away with this subject.

No,,, You can not add shared memory to your GPU.

You can view the Shared Memory in the Video Card Utility Info. Or maybe use an app like GPU-Z

Hmm, interesting but mind if I ask why? Or, have a nifty little post about why? Also, if you RAM load it, it shouldn't particularly matter, IMO.

Because it is set by the manufacturer in the Firmware and the device itself.

That depends. Speed of RAM and Front Side Bus, how much dedicated memory is on the video card all makes a difference in how good the card will handle Video Games, etc.

ok well the FSB is 200Mhz (AMD quadcore and AMD mobo)
my GPU (ATI 5770) has 1gb of dedicated VRAM

and the speed of the RAM is 1066Mhz

i have just gone into ATI CCC and i cant find any info on if memory is being shared with the GPU

i will post some screen shots as to what i have found and i hope they will help.

cheers
