Recently bought new computer with Win 7. Lots of things don't/ didn't work properly or at all, but I'm gradually getting sorted. Big problem at the moment is Skype. Call quality is poor - either they can't hear me or I can't hear them, and the sound disintegrates into distortion. Tried installing latest Skype version - made no difference.
My internet connection is wireless, and where I live it is often very slow, or indeed down altogether, which may be an issue.
Sound is on motherboard and Device Manager calls it "High Definition Sound device." Also have a combined C-Media headset, which has always previously worked well.
I am an ex-pat & desperate to talk to family and friends. nyone help, please?

If it's stating just High Definition Sound Device, you need to update the audio drivers for your integrated sound card.

Device Manager calls the on-board sound High definition device, and there is nothing anywhere to indicate exactly what the device is really called. Tried updating, but Win 7 says I have the latest drivers. Is there a generic driver I could use?

This machine was bought on ebay, manufactured by a private small business, which evidently used the cheapest components available. The seller will not give me any information (I am currently pursuing a claim for compensation because of the poor quality) and I do not know how to find it:(

When you open the cast are you able to see what kind of motherboard ( brand/part number)? If you can get that information, we may be able to help more.
