Hi all! :-)

Im currently running the Windows 7 RTM, and im having a little problem with my sound driver!

it keeps installing a standard driver that comes with W7, and i keep getting this message "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

I have managed to download the latest driver for it, but when i try to manually install it/update driver, it says "the best driver is currently installed"
And the second i uninstall it, it installs it again straight away using the standard drivers that come with Windows 7... is there any way of stopping this?

This is the computer i have Shuttle United Kingdom - Home

The sound card is built in to the motherboard and its a "Realtek ALC880 7.1 channel High Definition
audio"

Any chance someone can help me stop it installing the standard HD Audio driver when i uninstall it, so i can just install the one i have downloaded?

Or have any other solutions?

Cheers!!
Keith

update the driver thru the inbuilt updater( let it go online to find driver) meaning...it will search M$ database for driver....or you can go to each hardware vendors respective site and d/l'd em from there.

The mistake your making is trying uninstall the windows hd audio driver windows 7 installs automatically - the hd audio it installs has to be available before you can install the reatek driver - if you open the read me with the driver package you will find this -
On Windows XP/2000 (early versisn of 2003) you need to install a QFE to allow an HD Audio driver to install. This QFE is made available by Microsoft, and it is required to update Operating System components before installing the audio driver. The QFE contains the required files which outlines installation procedure.
On Windows Vista & Windows 7 the Microsoft audio function driver installs by default, and then you can proceed to update the driver.
So if you want the latest reatek driver you go to this site and download it - i think they have a W7 driver now available -
download from Guru3D.com
Damn, sorry I'll just continue anyhow. I've just looked at your computer specs, and you have an old p4 cpu, hence, you must have an old motherboard now you might have problems getting a driver to install - you can try to install the above or your already have, and it wont install, so you might have to go the manufactures site of your motherboard and download the audio driver - support -downloads - type in your motherboards name - it will be an xp driver most likely - to get it to install you will have to follow the below procedure :
To install a driver OR program in compatibility mode - right click the setup.exe file - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista/xp etc - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start setup.exe and install.
