When my computer installed today's update and rebooted it wouldn't load.

I rebooted it in safe mode and tried everything I know how to do.. In the end I did a System Restore to before the update and now it is running fine.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I am going to wait until I see a fix for this to do anymore updates. This put 4 of my computers out of commission.

me too

yes, I have the same problem only the restore points
had been corrupted. I'm still not up and running. If
no one responds to my post, the only thing I know to do
other than the steps in my is to reinstall windows.
Have 2 computers--one did fine.
Had to delay travel a day to deal with this one.

Hello sanjarver

If you have a windows dvd you could try a repair install; http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html

repair install

Did a startup repair. Looking at the repair install now...What I have is the system dvd...isn't that windows?...and the standard recovery discs and a disc for 64-bit language. It seems to say in the link you gave that I can only use these for a clean install. But I don't have any other choice that I can see.

Also just tried the system disc hitting the f12 per the directions with the System Disc, but nothing happens. Do you know what the "splash screen" is? Is that the blue screen with the swirlies? Does it hurt to keep tapping the f12 from the time the system comes on? Wondering if I'm hitting the f12 at the wrong time.

Thank you sooo much for responding!

also the repair install link seems to indicate using the disc after disabling antivirus. I
may not have been clear but I have a frozen black screen as soon as I complete
the login, It has a message on it about personalizing settings, but it is frozen.
Control + alt +delete does not work. I have to hold the button to turn the
system off.

I have been trying to find more info and it looks like you do not have a windows DVD. the answer seems to be restoring the Laptop back to when you got it, have a look here; How Do I restore my Vista laptop (acer)? - Yahoo! Answers
That you have 7 installed should not make a difference

Same Frozen Black Screen after Repair to Factory

It didn't work. Got the exact same screen in the end. Any chance
you have some other ideas?

btw, this screen says Personalizing Setting for Media Player if that means anything...

thank you for continuing to help me...unfortunately that post assumes
I can get to my start menu. I can't...just a frozen black screen with
the personalized settings message. I also can't make a back up for the same
reason, but I'm ok on that end. I just need to get the thing running.

btw, this screen says Personalizing Setting for Media Player if that means anything...

I also install sp1 yesterday and got the windows media player setting page upon reoot. Neither of which has caused me any problems, including using sharks codecs.

I I finally was able to begin a restore to factory settings...don't know what I did differently
than the other 4 times I tried, but hopefully am on the way to a solution now. Thank you
for responding.
