Solved Problems With Using Dual Monitors.

Hi guys,

First of all, I didn't really know where to put this, so my apologies if I did anything wrong.

I recently found a second monitor just lying around and decided to hook it up to my laptop. It worked fine for about a week but now, after maybe 30 minutes of use the problem occurs;

First of all, both my screens go completely black and the windows error sound plays. After a few seconds my main monitor comes on again and the seconds displays 'No Signal'.
Around 10-20 seconds later, the seconds monitor comes on again, but all the windows have been moved onto my main monitor.
I really don't know what else to say, I'm unsure what the problem is.

Check your power settings, some laptops on battery power will disable a second monitor automatically. Also, did you try clicking rb: type mobility center in the search programs and files, and choosing the monitor mode you want under display? You can also press the Windows Key + P to open Display Switch.

Worked fine for a week under the same exact circumstances?

Never recharged the battery?

If andrew's answer failed, I would have to suspect the external monitor's cable or the monitor electronics.

Check the cable on both ends of the external monitor (see if loose or dirty pins/holes) if seems normal, try replacing it or try the monitor on another system to verify it is fine.

I think it may just be a hardware problem.
