Problems with wireless mouse.

I have a dual OS HP laptop (Windows 7 & Ubuntu 12.04),The Ubuntu was added last weekend. The problem is that with the Microsoft wireless mouse dongle plugged in the computer refuses to boot (loud bleeping sound) unless I hold down the ctrl key, then I can only load windows 7.
With the dongle out there is no problem,I have used the mouse for over two years booting with or without the dongle inserted and I am sure it worked OK after loading Ubuntu.
Any suggestions please ?.

Changed batteries when problem was observed,no improvement.

Northerner, Is the 1st boot device set to boot the HDD or is it set to boot either CD/DVD or USB 1st ?

Order of boot:
1/internal CD/DVD drive.
2/ Internal hard drive.
3/ USB drive.

I have tried all the options but still problems.

Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec (left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

In the System Manufacturer Block, enter:
Ø Manufacturer and Model OR Custom build.
Ø ADD the word laptop, desktop, netbook or tablet.
For example:
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.

With Speccy, you can select with your mouse/touchpad info from the display
and paste that info into your specs.

SIW is a marvelous program, but the free version does not offer
this capability.
