Process Killer

Occasionally, some program will fail to fully terminate upon closing it, leaving it's icon in the notification area, and still listed in Task Manager. Using the kill process command in the TM has no effect on it, doing the same with Process Explorer or Process Hacker results in the same. I also tried using the TASKKILL command in a Command Prompt Window without success, despite the fact that it claimed it was successful. The only solution that I have found is to reboot, but that becomes annoying, especially with a program that I use frequently. Is there a better solution?

In lieu of something better, it is obviously corruption in the program, does it have a repair mechanism, or maybe just a reinstall, making sure you get rid of all the remnants of the program.

You're probably right about it being corruption, because the program that I'm currently dealing with is TVU Player, and I have used it a lot before without this problem. I guess that I was hoping that there was a sure fire means of nuking the process without the hassle of reinstalling. I know that in Linux there is a killer that seems to always work...but then, this isn't Linux.

Just had an idea, try a repair install (similar to win 7), just put the install dvd in and try to install again, an upgrade so to speak. Hey, I really hope I can help you have a good holiday.

What do you mean by (similar to win 7), isn't that exactly what you are purposing...using the win 7 disk for the repair?

With some exceptions, I consider every day a good one...some are just better than others. I hope that you have a good Christmas.

No, I should have explained myself better, try using the program dvd in the same way that you would use Win7, to make a repair.

The program isn't on a DVD, it's a download. However, running the installation again might help, I'll try it.

When I started to reinstall the app, I decided to look for an update and found one, so I installed that instead, after uninstalling what I had. Even doing that, the new installation froze and wouldn't terminate without rebooting, so I ran my reg cleaner, then did a search with regedit for anything that I could find that was related. Now I have the program installed again, and it seems okay, but that still wasn't what I started out to try to find.

Since the problem appeared to be registry related, I guess that no killer would have worked anyway. I know that a lot of people say that we shouldn't ever use a registry cleaner, but in cases such as this, it seems to be the only thing that works.
