I installed Win7 pro 64x with advanced options and did a sysprep to put the users on another drive so that my SSD would just have the OS. Everything went perfect for a few days then I got this error
"user profile service service failed the logon"
now any user will not load. I did research and found that I could edit the registry to fix the problem.. Great!! I boot into safe mode but nothing works. no regedit, no Dos prompt, etc.
I only get this error
C:\\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable.

I understand it cant find it cause I have the users on another drive. My question is how do I fix my original problem of
"user profile service service failed the logon"

any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello Cosmo, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if you may be able to do a system restore at boot using a restore point (if available) dated before this started to hopefully fix it.

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

thanks!! worked like a charm. So far so good.

Just cause...what do you think caused it? My installing the profiles on another drive? Just wondering how to avoid this in the future

thanks again

That's great news. :)

I would say that it was probably something that went wrong when installing the profiles to a different drive. Personally, I find it best to leave the profiles on the default C, and just use libraries if you wanted files to be stored at a different location instead.
