Profile folder gone!

OK, i have a win7 installed on main drive, added a mirored array as d: and pinted windows to store my docs and everything on that drive in case of failure.

I did have a c: drive issue and had to reinstall windows 7 again, on completion i found that the "my documents" folder on the mirrored drive had just disappeared.

I'm not sure if it's a security feature or something, but my username is different now since reinstalling. Of course this data is important, i've tried showing hidden folders but to no avail.

Any help appreciated.

Hi introuble and welcome to SF!
Try Recuva. Select drive D. In the end of scan process, select only what you want to recover. Let us know the results.

OK, it seems during the wizard of recuva that the folder is there indeed called "my documents" but alias as docs which i named it sometime back prior to pointing to it to change my profile over.

So far so good. I can see all the contents so likely it is all there so i choose "all files" option and leave as default the rest so no deep scan but it just got some stuff that didnt appear to be from this folder. I'll try again and see what happens with a deep scan.

I'm confident the data is there and intact, just a sod to get back.

meantime many thanks for heads up on "Recuva" I'll let you know the results.

What Recuva did in this instance is allow me to verify that the data was there. This is good enough for me to be fair. It enabled me to consider that the file could have only been hidden and also the data would be recoverable somehow.

Recuva did not manage to get the data back but it did prompt me that although win7 made it appear that the folder WAS called "my documents" it was in fact all stored in "DOCS" which is where Recuva pointed to.

What i did after unsuccessfully using Recuva was simply click on "organise' folder and search options' view and untick HIDE PROTECTED SYTEM AND OPERATING FILES.

That worked!!! I have all my data safely back.

but it would have taken me forever using Recuva or some other data recovery solution, however, thanks to you I have restored my data. Forum added to favs and again.... Many thanks. Hope thisis useful to somebody else in future.
