Program Guide Not Updating.

Sorry if this has been posted before, I've searched on various forums and have had mixed results from years of this similar problem arising on XP and Vista as well. My Media Center no longer updates the program guide, making media center essentially useless. I've tried re-setting it like others suggested, but now it gets stuck at "Downloading TV Setup Data". Everytime I try to access the program guide, it pops up a message saying my list is expired and needs to be updated, but it never actually updates. My internet connection is fine, the system is fine. Nothing has changed to potentially cause this conflict to arise. Is this a problem Microsoft has addressed or? Any help on fixing this would be appreciated, as I rely on MC to act as a DVR.

Hi welcome to sevenforums
Im no expert @ media center, so im gonna ask a dumb question. Media center goes out and gets the the list refreshed. What site does it go to? have your gone there in a browser? Im gonna jump out and see if there is info on this and hopefully someone with more experience can give you concrete advise. You might want to look in the tutorials section to see if there is info there to help

good luck Ill be back

Ken

What happends if you manually request a Guide Update from the Settings menu? I'll assume this PC can browse MSN.

Bye.

Zigzag: According to the "About Guide Listings", it's powered by Zap2it. I can load Zap2it's website. Crunchy: When I start Media Center and go to Guide, it lets me know my guide is outdated and recommends I update, which I click to do so. Nothing happens. When I click "Get Latest Guide Listings" in Setup/TV/Guide, it says "A download of the latest Guide listings is currently in progress.", but the guide never updates. The computer is on 24/7 and has an always-on broadband connection. I have all the latest updates available from MS. The only thing I can think of, is maybe it's a complication from installing all the optional language packs. As I noticed a "Korean Guide Listing" icon in my programs bar, but I never clicked it.

What I would do is blow away the partitions on your hard drive and start over with a fresh installation of build 7100 and do not apply any language packs (I hide them in Windows Update). You may have found some funky latent bug related to having all those language packs.

I had this happen twice and the only way I could get it to update was to go through the TV setup process again.

I also had this problem and then noticed that on a previous windows update my clock had been reset to 2006 ???? set the time and date and EPG worked OK

I have had this same problem as well and the only way I could get it to work again was to re-install Win 7 but as an upgrade (not a clean install). After the re-install all my files and other programs remain as before and the Media Guide update works OK. Bit of a pain but as the OP stated without the guide update MCE is not too useful.

On a more positive note the QAM and HD functionality is great so this guide issue is an "inconvenience" right now and hopefully will be corrected in the official release. I am with Comcast and they recently switched everyone to digital cable and turning off many of the analog channels. With Win 7 MCE I have it all back plus HD.

Got mine working again, I just did a fresh install of 7RC. It's a secondary PC so formatting isn't really that big of a concern for me. Thanks for the help suggestions. :)
