I have just installed an old program "MAME32 version 0.95" on my Win7. The program works fine except that one feature doesn't work properly.

So I right click the program exe file and enable compatibility mode and select Windows XP (SP3), when I try again, the same problem happens.

Well, it's not a big deal so I just go back by uncheck the compatibility mode but now, I notice that Win7 has added a shield to the program logo. There's no shield before I try the compatiblity mode. I don't like it. I uninstall and reinstall the program and the shield is still there. How to get rid of it.

Hello Summer4Ever,

This is normal. The shield overlay icon on the program's icon is just to indicate that the program will Run as administrator (elevated) when you run it, and give you a UAC prompt requiring you to "Allow" it permission to run first.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I finally figure out that the problem of one program feature not function has nothing to do with compatiblity mode and i'm able to fix it now.

regarding the UAC shield, before I enable compatiblity mode, there's no UAC shield over the logo and I was NEVER ask to allow program to run. After I enable the compatibility mode, then i was asked to allow the program to run.

now I just can't get rid of the UAC shield even though i disable the compatiblity mode.

You might see if rebuilding the icon cache may help if the program does not give you a UAC prompt when you try to run it.
