They can do it two ways that I am aware of.

One is to have direct access to your machine, and install a physical device.

The other, is through the internet.

I would run Ccleaner (it's a free program) It will erase all your session and cache.

Then I would install and run Malwarebytes. (also free)

Reboot ! (the more times a computer user reboots, the better off they are.)

Some tricky virus/malware reinstalls itself on Boot, (so) I would suggest installing Avast antivirus..
It has a Boot Time Scan that is designed to stop virus/Malware reloading on Boot.
It goes right to the "quick"

( I have a feeling that you are allowing other people to use your computer. Don't do that. That is the same as telling everybody a secret.)

You scare me to death. If you even thought that your computer was under attack, then it bloody is. Your "sensitive data" is Cactus.
I'd forget about that. I would do something about this before, you , become Cactus.

Hello maifs and welcome to the forums

Try using KeyScrambler:

QFX Software - Anti-Keylogging Software and More

It encrypts keystrokes so that a keylogger can't monitor them :) After installing this, if you do have a keylogger installed, it'll just be storing randomly encrypted characters, not your real passwords.
