All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.
Yep. Put them on the same subnet and run any of the various DLNA servers on the Win 7 box, including TVersity or Window's built-in Media Center. You will be able to access your music, pics and videos. You could install a special version of Linux (Yellow Dog) on the PS3 and you could use it as a real computer with full networking capabilities as any other standard pc.

Yes. At least 2 of them. One RJ-45 wired connection 100mbit, and wireless. About the wireless, I think it has 2 of those because it can connect to any router wirelessly and then be a wireless server to a PSP at the same time. That so the PSP can take full control of the PS3.

Like torrentg said any DLNA server should work fine with it for media streaming. For filesharing you can setup an http file server on your PC and access the files via the PS3's web browser -i have not tried this but I hear it works.

Edit- check this one out http://www.redkawa.com/fileserver/

That's the one. HSF is the one I used way back. Worked well but orb looks even better. Thanks for the links.
For streaming I use PlayOn because it can do Netflix and has TONS of extra content via some sweet plugins...dirty ones too:devil:

Hey Guys,

Been trying to connect my music to my ps3 and I've found wmp12 to be quite cack for large librarys because it keeps crashing when im trying to add my music to it!

Anywhos I got on board with orb and it looks pritty cool to be fair, I've just added my music folder and unfortunately only 5 albums showed?

All tracks are mp3's and are in a music directory sorted by artist then albums then tracks, I have roundabout 200 gigs of music so dealing with big librarys is a must for what ever it is I use to connect the console and my computer!

Cheers for any help!

Use TVersity. Just disable UPnP Device Host and SSDP Discovery services on the host machine. Flawless. Upon install AND if you're using Windows Firewall, allow the installer to set firewall permissions automatically.

The "EASIEST" way to connect a PS3 to any computer running XP, Vista, Windows 7, Linux..... is to run Java PS3 Media Server.... link to web site ps3mediaserver - Project Hosting on Google Code

some of the feature.......
Ready to launch and play. No codec packs to install. No folder configuration and pre-parsing or this kind of annoying thing. All your folders are directly browsed by the PS3, there's an automatic refresh also.
Real-time video transcoding of MKV/FLV/OGM/AVI, etc.
Direct streaming of DTS / DTS-HD core to the receiver
Remux H264/MPEG2 video and all audio tracks to AC3/DTS/LPCM in real time with tsMuxer when H264 is PS3/Level4.1 compliant
Full seeking support when transcoding
DVD ISOs images / VIDEO_TS Folder transcoder
OGG/FLAC/MPC/APE audio transcoding
Thumbnail generation for Videos
You can choose with a virtual folder system your audio/subtitle language on the PS3!
Simple streaming of formats PS3 natively supports: MP3/JPG/PNG/GIF/TIFF, all kind of videos (AVI, MP4, TS, M2TS, MPEG)
Display camera RAWs thumbnails (Canon / Nikon, etc.)
ZIP/RAR files as browsable folders
Support for pictures based feeds, such as Flickr and Picasaweb
Internet TV / Web Radio support with VLC, MEncoder or MPlayer
Podcasts audio/ Video feeds support
Basic Xbox360 support
FLAC 96kHz/24bits/5.1 support
Windows Only: DVR-MS remuxer and AviSynth alternative transcoder support

Java is usually a resource hog, in my experience. I wouldn't want to have that running 24x7 on a machine.

Think Azureus.
