PS3 or 360?

So, Im considering getting a console, possibly a PS3.
The big reason is that there are a few games Id like to play that are exclusive to consoles.

Just curious if anyone has hands on experience with both the 360 and PS3 could give some opinions on which is the better option and why.

From what I've read, the 360 has a advantage in regard to online play, but PS3 is better hardware-wise.
However, online play is not a selling point for me, as I could care less about Multiplayer or Xbox Live in general.

Im more interested in single player games, mostly the RPGs, JRPGS, or other SP games.
So would the PS3 be a good choice, or would 360 still win out.

Thoughts?

PS3. Definitely. I have had 4 Xbox 360's in the last 3 years, all RRODing. PS3 online play is better, and it's free. More exclusive titles like Gran Turismo and MLB The Show, and SOCOM Navy Seals. I've had my PS3 for a few months, and I love it. Waaaayyy better than 360.
TL;DR- PS3

I personally prefer the 360 because of its controller and online experience. Xbox live IS free, just not multiplayer gameplay. However, I really like the BlueRay player that comes with the PS3. If I'm not mistaken, Halo 4 will remain exclusively to the Xbox, just as previous versions.

I own both consoles and have owned them both for years. I prefer playing games on my 360. I like the controller better, it's way more comfortable in my hands. I also like the Xbox Live system and I do pay for a gold membership as I do play games online. There is a Netflix player as well as HBO Go for the 360.

The PS3 is a great console too. It plays BluRays, so that's a nice advantage. And it's silent, which I really do enjoy. The PS3 does have Netflix, but no HBO Go.

I think from a game quality standpoint, both consoles are pretty much the same. Each has titles which are better than others between them. So, no guarantee that one platform will look better or play smoother. The Microsoft Kinect system is leaps and bounds better than the PS3 move system.

If I had to pick 1 and only 1 for gaming, it would be my 360.

I bought my original 360 in 2006, it lasted 3 years and got the RROD. My replacement console is about 3 years old now and it's going strong. No problems whatsoever. Unless you get a used console, you shouldn't have any RROD problems anymore.

The 360 is better imo because of titles like gears of war and i preffer the 360 controller to the ps3 controller.Only down side is paying to play online but even though the ps3 has free online,my friend tells me it has more issues connecting with connection problems giving lag compared to his xbox which plays fine. It's mainly do to personal preference, only exclusive title I believe worth playing at all on the ps3 is god of war and that's it.Besides that game the xbox has better exclusives imo.

I personally am supportive of the PS3 according to what kind of gaming you are looking for. I agree that the 360 has much better online play and a richer online experience, and PS3 does fall behind a little bit in online play features. I actually don't have a 360, but I do have a PS3 and when I'm hanging at my friends house I get a little taste of 360.
I think that with the type of games you are looking for you will find more of these for the PS3.

Here's an important fact for you: Sony (aka: Playstation series) is made with quality, 360's (since it's made by Microsoft), is mostly "quantity". The original Xbox was so badly designed (versus the PS series) they had to recall tons of them. If I were into consoles, I'd rather buy the Playstation series. Since the 360's made by MS, I wouldn't trust it as much as Sony. The only thing I like about MS is their OS's, not much else.

Appreciate the opinions thus far everyone. Still a bit undecided ATM, although pparks did bring up a point I hadn't considered.
The controllers. I do like the Xbox controller better than the PS3s dualshock ... Lots to consider I suppose.

Oh yeah, another much better thing with the 360 remote. The battery packs are replaceable. They are built into the PS3 controller, so if the battery dies, you have to buy a whole new controller.

Hands down, PS3. The X360 doesn't have the library of RPGs the PS3 has.

Really, I don't care if console ABC is made of gold, costs $1, and is indestructible... if it doesn't have the games I want. The X360 is a nice machine, I do play the odd shooter now and then, but it's my PS3 which gets the most mileage due to RPGs.

Also, are you guys throwing your machines and controllers against the wall or something? >__> I play for an hour or two everyday after work, 2 years going and still pristine. And I have the white-coloured PS3 (admittedly, I wanted to purchase the cool black one but they were out of stock, and I grew to like the white one anyway).

Xbox is better.Skyrim has problems on ps3.Orange box was great and still is but was a terrible port on sonys machine. You get what you pay for when it comes to internet.Budget blue ray players from sony and panasonic blow the ps3 out of the water in terms of picture and sound quality. The current xbox is now much quieter and dont suffer from the problems of the earlier models. So if i was buying now i would go for the 360.

Both machines have strengths and weaknesses. I personally have a PS3 because I'm a Gran Turismo addict, but I've played on a 360 on numerous occasions and it's a great machine.

Well Im only looking into them for certain games that are exclusive to consoles anyway. If a game has a PC version, Id buy it first.

Still considering which way to go, or if its even worth the effort .. Im wondering if i may be disappointed in either one, being as I may be expecting similar result as my PC gives.

When it comes to visual output of console games, when you're used to SSAA or 32xCSAA at resolutions as high at 2560x1600 or 1920x1200 on your trusty PC, be prepared for the literal eye cancer some games can give you on the console...

Games on the console are usually saved by great art direction and design, not the technical merits... Be prepared for the aliasing and muddy textures... Oh God, the horror!!!!

If your looking for graphics then stay away from the consoles they both have the same visuals. If your looking for exclusives ,I would go with the xbox and the xbox 360 has backwards compatibly to older xbox games while the ps3 cant play ps2 games and only ps3 but can play ps1 games if your into that.Anyways I play the xbox for gears of war and when ever the pc gets a crap port i get it for the xbox instead.Other then that my bro is the one that plays on the xbox,i rarely touch it and prefer my pc.Only console I ever played a lot in the past was the ps2 and snes and that's about it.

Why? Microsofts online experience is extremely fast for games on Xbox LIVE. Also their DVD player is much clearer with less noise I've heard. Their controllers are much easier to use and their games run more fluently.

Think I might just get both.

But I did go ahead and pick up a PS3 yesterday. Started off with red Dead Redemption and Final Fantasy gaemes as Ive been wanting to play them.
Grabbed Dark Souls too because I heard a lot of good things about it, but noticed last night its coming to Steam/PC next month.

So will probably return it for something else and grab that one on PC.

I have a 360 here now as well, although its not mine. But will have it for a while. Lots og games but all FPS, and not so crazy about those. :(
