Hi all been looking for a 4K UHD TV, hoping that gameplay on PS4 would be greatly improved, but then I stumbled onto the fact that 4K TV's are HDMI 2 and PS4 is only HDMI 1.4 although the HDMI 2 on a 4K have got backward technology with HDMI 1.4, how I see it that's all it will play at ?????? same as on my 1080p full HD?

PS just fort will this also affect dvd blu ray play back ?

PS4 and Xbox One don't have 4K capabilities, pretty bad for "next gen" consoles, most people that want a 4K gaming experience usually switch to PC as that's the only way to get true 4K gaming nowadays, but it costs a lot to get a decent framerate on 4K, a happy medium would be 1440p which is 2.5K which is more manageable, UHD TV'S are still able to play 1080p and you will see improvements to ps4 native output as TV's upscale pretty well.

Not really, the displays all produce the same image regardless, it just depends on whether the software does a good job of cleaning up the image.

It's still irrelevant if the image is via VGA, HDMI or DVI, 4K can only be produced on high bandwidth cables, HDMI 2.0 or display port.

Lots of people feel the same, it's a dumb move by Sony and Microsoft, but they have a certain budget to adhere to and that's the capabilities of the hardware, most ps4 and xbox one games can't even run at 1080p, never mind 4K.

Also, the issue is still there that 4k won't be "mainstream" for a few more years, so why spend the extra money(thus increasing the price of the consoles) for something that will be vastly underutilized? They're making these consoles for what is mainstream and widely used, not for what could/will be used in most households in 2-3 years. That's my take on it anyway.

I remember when 2400 baud connection was king, I bought a Turbo Modem capable of 56K baud connection (had the money thought I would impress everyone with it!)... I was never able to even use half of the 56K when the modem was dead and had to buy a new one ;) :D

Learn my lesson ever since and why Patience is a Virtue LOL

It takes some serious power to run native 4k.

The technology is no where near ready for that on the console level. (the small form factor integrated CPU/GPU chips)
They are only just now getting decent at 1080p in that small form factor. And even then not everything at 60fps. Mostly 30fps.

At this point, PCs with very high end dedicated cards are really the only ones that can.

Not to mention, these set ups are expensive. So not everyone will have one.
I dont blame Sony or MS for going the 1080 route. I would in their shoes. Makes the consoles more affordable and its what the majority will be using.

You're expecting too much from your PS4. Don't get me wrong, I love mine. But I know its limits. For those games where I want the best possible frame rate and visuals, I always go PC. Unless kicking back in the family room in my recliner is more important (which lately for whatever reason it has been the driving factor) then I go PS4.

A good TV with higher res will look better though. They scale well. It just wont be rendered native.

^True.

Even thought PS4's Processor is an Octa-Core, It's still an enty-level. Why? Because it's just based from Temash (Used in Netbooks) and originally has 2-4 Cores and it's GPU is Tahiti which is a modified HD 7870 and can't handle 4K properly unless you have a good CPU.
