PSP 7 compatibility

Okay I know it's an old program, but I would like to know if there are any compatibility issues with it. Before upgrading from XP Pro to 7 Home Premium, I had both PSP 7 & Corel PSP 10 installed and used both with no problem. But in the compatibility list it shows that there are issues with PSP 10, but nothing on PSP 7.

I searched the forums and could only find one thread concerning this software. Are there any issues I need to be aware of or will this work with the new OS? I suppose I could just try to install it and hope for the best, but I thought I'd get some input first.

As suggested there, running PSP7 in XP mode, which, judging from your PC specs, seems possible for you, may be the way to go.

Windows 7 Compatibility Center don't specifically list PSP7 as having a compatibility problem, however, I do think you are going to have some trouble seeing as PSP8 is still having problems and being worked on.

Thanks, I installed PSP 7 and set it to run in XP SP3 mode and so far seems to run okay. We'll see how things progress, but so far so good.

One of the first programs I always install is Paint Shop Pro 7.0.4 (10th Anniversary Edition). Though I did not have to run it in compatability mode, it installed straight off the bat. Quite a surprise considering it's windows...

I set it to run under XP SP3 only because that was the OS I had before upgrading to 7. I figured since it worked okay before, then why change it. I don't use it much, and use it mostly for editing photos. I didn't see the need to buy new software as long as PSP 7 would still do the job.

I have found that PSP all though very old software by todays standards is the best. It is simple, has all the features I need and allows Photoshop add-ons (At least the old ones). Then suddenly Jasc was taken over by Corel and their new Paint Shop Pro 8.0 seemed a lot like Photoshop to me, they had just seemed to change everything I liked about it including it's compatability.

...It is amazing how attached to this software I have come.

I agree, I like PSP 7. I don't do a lot of graphics work. Most of what I do is touching up photos to take out red eye and such. But for what I need, PSP 7 works just fine. I have Corel's PSP X, but the older version is still my favorite. I haven't tried to install and use PSP X since I upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista. I'm not sure I will. I know there were some compatibility issues with it, so why fix something that ain't broke?

Love PSP7, works great on my 64 bit Win 7 system, I have absolutely no issues with it.
And I'm running it in Win 7 mode and not XP.

I fear there is a great following for PSP7 whilst it was still run by Jasc Inc. If only they didn't get bought out, I would love an updated verion of PSP 7 which includes a lot of features from Photoshop: Plus Photoshop compatability would be good, it was great whilst it lasted but PS upgraded and PSP 7 stayed the same. There are currently some really good Pshotoshop files I would like to modify but I cannot open them any more. Would anyone know how to convert the *.psd to *.psp with all the layers and opacity in tact?

Just another vote for good `ol psp 7.
Don't use it alot anymore but it works, even off a flash drive.

I installed PSP X and the only issue I've found is that Windows 7 will revert to Windows 7 Basic because the aero feature doesn't work with PSP X. When I'm done Windows reverts back when I close PSP X. Both 7 & X work fine with no real issues I can find. Life's good!

PsP 7 in Windows 7

I have used PsP7 for years, and have not found a version that I like better. I've only had this new computer, Win7/64bit for about 3 weeks. After reading about compatibility issues, I decided to download the newest version (trial) from Corel to try it out before buying. I'm glad I did, as everything I read in the forums and reviews for issues and problems, occurred. It downloaded fine, but upon opening, would freeze, and hang, and couldn't do a thing. So I bit the bullet, and decided to 'try' to get my PsP7 installed and just see what happened. It works fine, for the basic things. Most of my plugins and filters won't work, but I can live without them. Something is better than nothing for us graphic editors.

Also, I have zillions of fonts in my file. I don't want to install them in my system fonts, but on my old xp would just open them up then open up PsP and I could use whatever font I had opened in PsP without installing it.

It won't let me do this now on Windows 7. (sighhh) I miss that option, and hate to think I have to install them just to use them in my PsP. Any ideas on this? Thxxx
