Solved PSU output socket vibrating.

Hello guys.

A quick question over here.
I have a Cooler Master Silent Pro 850W PSU that today randomly decided to stop being quiet.
And not because of the fan.

The socket where you plug the cable seems to be coming loose and vibrates every other couple of minutes to an extent where it is uncomfortable. Specially since my computer runs all night.

I talked to the store and they won't take it back because it is not affecting it's performance and it's not an issue that jeopardizes my system. So they basically said ''Deal with it''

So, there may be a way to get this dampened or something, but I can't think of what I can do. I was thinking of just trailing the edge with superglue little by little until the gap that is vibrating gets filled up, and that would most likely be the end of it I guess.

Would there be other ideas you can recommend?

Have you tried a different AC power cord? Could be that cord is slightly under size.

If its not the AC power cord, then I would suspect either a bad fan or a transformer vibrating to the point its causing the problem. either way, contact Cooler Master. I had an OCZ power supply with a noisy fan and contacted them, they reported there was a batch of power supplies with defective fan controller circuitry and they replaced the power supply with a newer production run model that did not have the problem.

Well, whenever I push a little bit on the socket while it vibrates it does get silenced, it is a little hard to troubleshoot the cause of the vibration on a running PSU though..

Let me try with another cord though.
It would be strange if it shrunk after months

I would try some kind of rubber to form a kind of gasket. If it continues go back to the store and complain and ask for the manager. It could be excessive fan vibration leading to this.

Lets go ahead and call this the stupidest thread ever and call myself a dumbbutt.
I forgot my power supply comes with rubber pads in case that your PSU causes any vibration on the case.

Just installed them and problem was gone. The back grill was not doing enough pressure against the case which the pads fixed.

lets move on people, you at least deserve rep for making you lose your time.

Just the fitting next to the case more than likely. If you suspect the fan, do not open the psu to clean yourself. That is something that a repair shop should do. It is normal to occur if the case and psu don't fit perfectly. I always warn anyone on psu dangers as they can kill.

I am not a chemist, but wont superglue melt plastic / have a thermal reaction with it?

Superglue normally will disolve many plastics rather than have a thermal reaction. It will react thermally with some kinds of fabric.

Yeah, I'm aware of PSU dangers. I would never deal with any electronic besides a cellphone or GPU.
But I doubt it's the fan. It rarely spins up, but I guess a span that doesn't spin that often is a hive for dust.

Anywho.. I do blast it with compressed air every other week to keep it clean.

Super glue won't adhere to most plastics but there is one made for them.

Erick you might give the PSU maker a shout about this vibration, it shouldn't have done it no matter what your cheap shop people said.
