Happy Holidays to all!

Christmas morning and I’m up early, on my PC (have a lot of writing to get done within the next 10 days).

My Sony Vaio AR790U/B Notebook is running very well since my clean install of Windows 7 pro 64-bit. I had a general heat issue that was resolved thanks to the good people of this site. I’ve just now realized another heat related problem and I think I know where it’s coming from, and now I’m trying to work out a solution.

On the right palm wrest area, my notebook gets hot and then typing becomes a bit painful after a while. I thought about it and realized that this notebook didn’t always have this problem. Then I remembered that this PC came with two WD 250GB 5400RPM drives which are located right underneath that now hot right palm wrest. Okay well I upgraded those two drives with two Hitachi 300GB TravelStar drives running at 7200RPM’s. So is it possible that these drives are causing the heat problem? And if so, is there any type of heat shielding or perhaps heat absorbing material or plate, that I could purchase and place in there, above the two drives? There is room in there that something could be inserted……..

The only thing you can do with HDD heat in a notebook, with confined space, is allow the drives to enter sleep mode as much as possible or use a cooler which sits below the notebook - there's typically no room inside for modifications...

Hi

Take a look at this:

Then Google cool pad.

Thank you guys but I’m hoping to find something to go inside. I’d rather not add a bulky item; this is a pretty large laptop and it does have empty space above the hard drives. I’m sure something the same thickness as cardboard or even two layers, could fit right in there. If not then I’m going to have to get new hard drives because I do like my hand so I might as well take care of it.

Also I was thinking wouldn’t it be great if there’s a kickstand out there. What I mean is a metal or strong plastic piece that could attach (with that strong sticky foam) to the bottom of any laptop, laying flat and then extend/unfolded to raise the laptop an inch to sit at an angle.
