Solved Purchase a windows 7 ultimate 64 bit key

Can someone advise me of a reliable download site where I can purchase a windows 7 ultimate 64 bit key. Some of the sites I'm seeing advertised are 3 months on the market and that doesn't give me much confidence without references. I downloaded a verified ISO of Win7 Ultimate from Digital River and using the USB tool from MS I've loaded a bootable install file on to a USB drive. So all I need is a legitiment Key. Any help appreciated.

Yes, that's true but I was hoping to be able to download it. I haven't found any merchants on Amazon which provide a download service.

You don't download keys. You install Windows and then it asks you to type your key.
If you were hoping to download Windows 7, there is nothing stopping you from downloading the original Microsoft discs and then purchasing a key to use with them.

There's allot of things that can go wrong with a download especially one that large,

My downloads and my USB media have stood the test of time. My original Microsoft discs are all slowly wearing. When I initially bought the RTM version of XP x64, I made a copy of it that to this day performs better than the actual disc in terms of both speed and CRC issues.

I didn't even bother after I heard my Windows 7 disc skip once or twice. From now on I'll stick to downloads and alternative storage, thanks!

The best prices I see are on Tiger Direct, $89 for Home Premium, $139 for Professional. But no download, you can install now from the Win7 Downloads links in Step 1 of http://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/14-windows-7-direct-download-links burned to CD or flash stick with tool in Step 2, and install the key when it arrives which gives you some time to see if you like the install.

I don't think Microsoft allow the keys to be sold by themselves anymore. I don't know if there are any sites that will sell the keys by themselves or not in an OEM kit of some sort, so you might have to consider going to a store or just ordering and waiting.

I always went to a retail outlet and bought Windows 98, 98SE, XP PRO and Windows 7 a couple of times. They all worked as they should.

Scratch/ loose.... yes, which you have that chance using any type of media, flash drive failure...

But it sounds to me like you the op have already have downloaded win-7 ultimate ?
And just need a activation key ?

Nor do I after having left them in their cases without touching them for many years. Ironically, aforementioned Windows XP x64 disc and its copy were in neighboring covers and the former was noticeably struggling to complete an install while the latter was comparable with a USB installation.

I had also thought that my untouched Windows 7 CD would be happy enough to do an install for me an other time down the track only to find that it too was already tuckered out from too much time spent in its protective case.

I haven't even taken my Windows 8 discs out of their cases but I would hate to have to deal with the inconvenience after having installed Windows 8 many times already without them. I think the odds are stacked against them too!

Your CD/DVD's are wearing out sitting in a plastic protection case just sitting their not being used??

I have had CD's and DVD's for years in plastic cases without any problems.
Of course you must keep them away from heat or direct sun light and large magnets.
Most of the world use these protective cases and I have never heard of such a problem before.
What other storage method would you recommend.

They don't look worn out but they were definitely acting like it. They were functional but at an obvious diminished speed. As I said, I made a copy of my original XP x64 the day I bought it, and even to this day the copy is considerably better comparatively speaking than the original.

Hogwash. The iso downloads are often corrupt due to D/L speed, web traffic, server traffic etc. ThrashZone's statement is correct, and I've never heard a DVD skip.
I have an original w7 Student Upgrade disk for 5 years which is still perfect, no "skipping" or the like, works faster than the copy I made. USB sticks are faster though, but can get corrupt laying around as can an optical disk.

Yes MS does allow online keys to be delivered in the US, just not w7 now since they are pushing their other stuff down our throats.

What type of optical media have you found that is in any way affected by magnetic fields (large magnets)?

ive never warn an os disc out.. but I have had one shatter in a disc drive
the blu ray drive in question is now in my server after a good vacuum and blast with my compressor.. still sounds like theres a handful of grit in it!!

This can happen and it is called disc rot. You are all correct.

Also over the years the laser in the drive reading the disc can wear out getting dimmer and can have trouble reading the discs, so yes Cd's and DVD's wear out sitting in shelves. I have David Bowie - Hunky Dory CD from 20 years ago and the final bonus track is now an unplayable mess and I also have a T Rex CD and the last track on that is a skip mix. No piss taking about the music please, I have a ton of it and it is of every type.
