Solved Purpose of Win 7 backup image?

Please excuse what may be a naive question! I have faithfully imaged my computer's Win 7 hard drive each week using (alternately) Aomei and Acronis software. I also use Macrium for periodic images on my older laptop and my husband's computer, both of which use Win 7. It seems more than likely now, though, that any computer failure will probably result in the purchase of a new computer, meaning Win 10 will be the OS installed. Would a disk backup image be of any help, or should I focus exclusively now on file and folder backups?

Yep a system image probably won't help much unless it's going to the same machine it was created from
All else would be best as copy and paste folders.... to another exterior drive/ disk.
That way it will not only be faster but more relevant backup to transfer to a newer machine.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts. I'm guessing that even restoring to another Win 7 computer would probably not be successful, as the hardware is different in each.

Personally i would continue to create periodic backup images on any system that is working well.
There could be many reasons to recover without having to buy a new pc such as:
HD failure, malware/virus, Windows Update problem, New program causes problems, Power Outage, ...

Yes, I know that's true, but my desktop is nearly 6 years old, so I guess I'm anticipating a major rather than a minor problem, one in which a recovery might not be worth the effort. Would sure hate to abandon Windows 7, though!

My Acer is that old and still going strong
As long as the mother board doesn't get whacked it's still a pc with a valid license for the original windows install
Modifing old desktop machine in new case

Windows 7 is supposed to be supported until January 2020. Two weeks ago I bought a refurbished Sony Vaio running 7 Pro from a local mom & pop computer repair shop to replace a broke Sony Vaio that had also been running 7 Pro. Aomei was able to restore a system image from the old machine to the refurbished machine without any problems. With the money I received as trade in the refurbished machine cost less than $200 dollars. Not a bad deal. Just more food for thought.

From the AB compare versions info i read it looks like the Pro version is needed to restore to different hardware, but SIW2 says the free version can do it.
I don't know, i never used that feature

It is possible that feature has been moved to the paid versions.

The free version used to do it. Not sure if it still does.

I downloaded the installer from Aoemi, scanned at VirusTotal, installed, entered license to upgrade to Pro.
No problems so far for me.
