If I set a program (.exe file) to "Always Run as Administrator", as described in this tutorial: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11841-run-administrator.html, are those elevated privileges passed onto plugins (.dll files) that the program may load?

If not, is there a way to assign those elevated privileges to the .dll files so that they can write to those areas? (Other than turning User Account Control off completely.)

I am thinking of Digital Audio Workstation host programs, which may load several synth and FX plugins. Some of those plugins would wish to write into sub-folders in the ...\Program Files folder.

Hi DarkStar,

I speak under correction here, and I hope others will correct me if I am wrong, but I think the answer is NO because the \Program Files folder is protected by the UAC function.

Have you tried your program if UAC is turned down one notch from the default setting?

Regards,
Golden

Actually, if a program is run as Administrator, then any processes it spawns will also be run as Administrator. This is why programs should not be run as Administrator unless absolutely necessary.

Yes, I'd like to avoid it too.

A couple of examples;
(a) IK Multimedia products write into ...Program Files\IK Multimedia\<productname>\Presets and ...\Preferences
(b) Toontrack's EZPlayer writes into ...\Program Files\Toontrack\EZplayer\Mounts
