Quadro FX 3700 PCIE card, slow death R.I.P?

Hi All.

I've been troubleshooting a system for a week, and finally realized it's the video card.

It was a slow process, where I would have to turn the pc on and off multiple times before it would boot. Now, it has finally gotten to the point where it will never boot with the card in.

Before the problems, I had been using a software and codec that 'decompressed all frames on the card', so I think this taxed the card.

I'm just curious if anyone has any suggestions on how to trouble shoot it. Should I take the cover off the card to look, or just chuck it?

There's probably not much in serviceable parts, so I'd leave the cover on. Take it to a PC repair shop and see if it works in one of their test boxes.

They might give you good money for it.

Damn, a Quadro in the metalflesh. I've heard about them being used in high-end 3DS Max/Maya workstations (I believe the college I went to used one in more than one of their rendering rigs, although I never got the chance (or took the opportunity if it had come up) to use one of them, as far as I know), but this is the first time I've seen one out of the case.

Definite agreement with SlartyBart; even if there's some circuit fail/heat & age issues, that's a righteous piece of equipment you've got. At the very least you'd probably be able to get a decent payback at an honest repair shop (even if they use it for chipping parts, as in replacements for other cards being serviced) with the kind of rep a Quadro has. I know you'd said this was one you were working on troubleshooting but not necessarily a personal rig; any idea what the computer it was installed in was meant for when it was actively operational? I'd just be curious to see if it was indeed used for heavy renders.
