For the show desktop button it can't be moved unless a reg hack is done (if someone knows otherwise please post) and for the large icons just right click on a empty area of the taskbar->Properties->Check the box for small icons->ok!

You can reactivate the Quick Launch and with that the show desktop will be apart of the ql. Follow instructions on how to move the quick launch to the left (step 8) after you turn it on. Its all in the tutorial:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/888-quick-launch-enable-disable.html

Added:

Here's a picture of the quick launch turned on, with the "Show Desktop" Icon highlighted.

As a side note:

You can use the keyboard shortcuts ("windows key" + D) or (windows key + Spacebar) to show the desktop. The ("windows key" + d) works just like clicking on the "show desktop" icon, where as the ("windows key" + Spacebar) is like desktop "peek".

If you press the Windows button + space bar together , that will show you your desktop .

Hope that helps ?

Think about the usage of the show desktop button. It's usually when you want to get to the desktop quickly right? Isn't it better to blindly throw your mouse to the corner of the screen instead of pecking at a shortcut on taskbar?

That's the reason for it's location. Same reason the bottom left area that doesn't contain the actual orb for the start menu still activates the start menu. They're called zero pixel points.

i'm not sure if i understand na...

a) "show desktop" w win7 is part of "quick launch"; an app. that's _disabled_ by default. but there's a tutorial around that shows how to enable it.

(search "enable quick launch")

*

b) as u say, by now there's an area to the right end of taskbar that provides same feature. no u cannot move that.

but u can move an "'enabled' quick launch" to the left.

*

c) re keyboard shortcuts. i've disabled most of "convenience features" --- & i find "win"-spacebar doesn't work. but "win"-d _does_ work.

hope it helps :-)
