Query if a Display is connected?

I have a three screen setup, two of the screens connect directly to the PC. The third connects to my receiver and that receiver connects to my computer. If the receiver is on Windows detects the monitor if the receiver is off no connection is present.

Here is my issue: My icons get all messed up if I decide to use my third monitor. I found this nifty program called ReIcon where you can save icon layouts. I created two separate layouts, one for when I have two monitors on and one for when all three are on. What I need now is a utility to tell me the current state of the monitors so I can create a logic statement on startup to decide which layout to load. Something as simple as querying device manager to list the number of Display devices connected.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I know of no such software that would allow you to do what you want, others may.

If it turns out that there isn't anything available, it likely could be done by writing a small program yourself, and have it execute at start up. There are free tools available that would allow you to write such a program. Actually doing it would require a little research and experimentation, assuming you have some passing familiarity with writing code, but it's certainly within the realm of possibility.

Thanks for the feedback - anyone else know of a 3rd party software that can do what I am asking?

Routing a display output through a receiver just plain sucks for reasons such as yours. It's been a headache for many for a while. I simply connect an HDMI cable from the PC directly to my HDTV. I have analog audio going from sound card to the receiver. Just my 2 cents.
