Query regarding SSD

My new SSD is plugged into the one of the 6Gb/s sockets on my motherboard. I’ve been reading other posts here regarding NOT using the marvell controller for the SSD. My drive’s performance is no where near the quoted figures. How do I NOT use the Marvell controller when my drive is plugged into the socket. What other controller is there to use. I’m confused. Do you have any other 6GB ports?

Those nums are pretty good. Compare that to my M4. Note that mine is a 64GB which is a bit slower in nature.

I'm not sure I follow you.

Obviously, if you plug into the Marvel controller's socket, you will be using the Marvel controller.

If I read the manual correctly, that board has 8 SATA sockets:

2 SATA 6 ports, using the Marvell controller

6 SATA 3 ports (ICH10R).

See section 2.2 of the manual.

If you don't want to use the Marvell controller, use one of the other 6 SATA 3 ports.

I have no idea if that would provide better performance.

Some boards have two SATA III controllers, one of which is usually, Intel. You just have Marvell. From an SATA III standpoint, you don't have a choice. You can of course, use the Intel SATA II controller, but at a lower speed.

So you really shouldn't be confused, your choice is Marvell SATA III (grey) or Intel SATA II (blue).

That is correct. 6 SATA 3GB/s ports (blue) and 2 SATA 6GB/s ports (grey).

As I now understand it, I have no choice. If I plug the drive into one of the 3GB/s sockets, the performance of the drive will be worse than it is now.

It’s just that I thought I was connecting it all up wrong and that there was a better way.

I would try one of the SATA 3.0 ports and compare the performance.
