Ques re 100 MB System partition

In my reading, I got the impression there is supposed to be a 100 MB system partition installed as part of the Win 7 installation. I don't see this partition on my system even looking at it with Acronis Disk Director.

If I am right that there is supposed to be this system partition, it sounds like it could be a problem down the road that I don't have it. Is there any way to get this partition installed on my system w/o doing a new clean install and, if so, what would be the procedure?

The partition is created if and only if the Windows 7 installer partitions the drive (e.g., if you have it installing into a block of unpartitioned space). If the drive had already been partitioned prior to install and you are installing into an existing partition, the 100MB system partition is not created.

And no, you don't need this partition for general use. You need it if you want to BitLocker-encrypt your main partition (and I think it might also facilitate VHD booting, though I don't remember). For 99% of people, it's not needed, and it's not going to cause any problems down the road if you don't have it (but it doesn't hurt to have it, so that's why the installer creates it by default, if given the opportunity to do so).

If you have an existing partition then the OS wont create that partition. But if you point the installer to a raw unpartitioned drive then itl create the system reserved partition with no drive letter. Its perfectly normal and it doesnt matter if its there or not.

Personally I like things organised so I delete existing partitions so that Windows can create it.

You have a large enough hard drive not to be overly concerned about free space.

Good info. Was wondering why this partition appeared when I installed onto a brand new un-partitioned disk. I'll leave it be since it's a 500 GB disk and the partition is only 100 MB.
