Question about backup and restore

hey everyone, i have a question about backup and restore, i now have a full system and data backup to a EXT hard drive, done once a month. i also have a full system back up and data backup using Acronis true image on my EXT HD also, done every 2 weeks.( 2 seperate backup solution) i also have (1) laptop and another desktop with a lot of free space on the HD.i understand that the backup can only be restored from the EXT harddrive, but i would like to have a copy of my image and data in another location. so my question is, if i was to move (copy) my backup image and data to my other PC, could i then move it back to the EXT HD if i need to, to do a restore. i also have all 3 PC on the homegroup.

I am 95% sure you will be fine, especially if you plan to move it back to the same drive if you need it. I believe Windows will search for the image and take it from wherever it is. This should work fine if you can move the image.

There has been a few posts on this type of an issue on these forums before.

I think the consensus is that you should be careful about where you restore FROM. If the original image of C was made to say, D:\images and you then moved the image from D:\images to F:\images, you should NOT restore from F. Move it back to E and restore from E. It's also a good idea not to change the image name.

I don't know if these precautions are necessary for all imaging programs, but violating them can cause problems with at least some imaging programs.

well yes my image is now on my EXT HD i would like to have a copy somewhere else in case my EXT goes south, and if that happens i can always get a new EXT and put the image back to the new EXT and restore my image an data back, yes?, no ?

You are asking for trouble if you RELY on images. Sometimes they work. Usually they work. Most of the time they work. They nearly always work. They worked for some guy you know 132 consecutive times.

Will they work the next time, when you have completely relied on them in a crunch situation?
