Question about FPS ''Lag'' with my new computer

Hey everyone,

I play games quite often and decided to buy a new computer because on my old computer I was only able to play without FPS lag if I'd put all the settings at it's lowest. I obviously wanted to have that fixed so I decided to buy a new computer.

Old computer:
- Windows XP
- AMD Athlon(tm) llX2 dual-core processor
- NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT
- 250GB Hard Drive
- 4GB DDR2 memory
- 2.2GHz or 2.1GHz

Now...

I bought a new computer with the following statistics;
-Windows 7 home premium 64 bit
-AMD Athlon(tm) llX4 <605e quad-core processor>
- ATI Radeon(tm) HD 5450 512MB
- 500GB Hard Drive
- 4GB DDR3 memory
- 2.3GHz

I assumed the fps lag would be fixed, but it turns out that it's functioning even worse than my old computer, while the stats are much better.

I hope someone can help me find a solution to this problem, else the new computer would just have been a big waste of money.

Thanks in Advance,

Dylan

PS: The game I play is called ''Soldierfront''. It's hosted at www.ijji.com (sfront.ijji.com)

It seems the game has some issues with Windows 7, its still in beta. Anyways, try running the game in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode and Run as Administrator.

one reason is that you upgraded to another very slow performing card.

@Zepher - The HD 5450 isn't that bad, and is not a very slow performing card, wrong, its an OK mediocre card for average uses, and ok for gaming. Now if his framerate was better with his old computer, does that mean that his 8500GT is better than the HD 5450? No.

It seems its the fault of the game you are getting a low framerate. Could you try contacting support?

btw, His new machine is barely faster than his old one.
I did read that some AMD processors experience lag and that there is a driver download, but I didn't check to see if it was specific to XP or any OS.

Its an improvement, not a great one, but its still an improvement, so he should theoretically be getting higher framerates than with his old computer.

Slasher

If the game isn't mullti-threaded and and uses the CPU, then he will get a framerate loss since the cores in his quad are slower than the cores in the dual core. Passmark gives 1900 marks for the Dual core and 2500 marks for the quad.
that is 950/core in the dual, and 625/core in the quad.

Oh ya, you are right actually, I forgot, his processor doesn't have the ability to Turbo Boost, give higher clock to a single core ect. if the other cores aren't being used.

Is this a pre-built PC with an aftermarket vid card you threw in there? Might be a crappy mobo causing some bottlenecking.

Oh yeah, though I'm an ATI guy, the 8500GT is a solid card. Not quite up to today's standards...but...

Perhaps you have too much stuff running in the background. Like your antivirus, itunes, limewire, msn,...etc

The problem with the term lag is that it is such a general term with a general meaning.

I would highly suggest reading this article - Guides: How to Get Rid of Lag - GeForce - In addition to explaining the various forms of lag and how they affect performance, it also gives a few suggestions on dealing with it.

Well worth the read.

Good luck.
