Question about integrated graphics

Hello all
I recently received my new Dell laptop
I am still fiddling around but I saw that except my gt540m I have an integrated graphics card.
How do I know which is being used? And how do I know that my nvidia card is active when I am playing and my integrated when I am doing basic stuff.

your integrated graphics will be disabled at all times when a graphics card is placed in the pci slot.

there won't be a single time it's in use for any app or any mundane task.

you can however enable it and use it for a 3rd monitor but having never done it myself i can only assume it's due to certain motherboards allowing such a feature.

if he is talking about laptop with nvidia optimus that is not true

only way to know or to control what card is used is in the nvidia drivers tool. where you can set settings for optimus.
nvidia optimus still kind of buggy.. you can read more in nvidia forums.
