question about .key files

I just upgraded to windows home premium... and i have some software i bought called texture workshop.
the instructions to register.. when i bought the software was to doubleclick the file reg.key.

You have just to save the regkey.key file to your hard drive and then
double-click it.
After this easy procedure your copy of the program is successfully registered.

they do not seem to know what to do when asking about windows 7.

I can provide reciepts that i did purchase this software if needed.

I would like to know how to get the registration to work.

What happens when you double click the reg key file ? do you get an error?, or a message saying it was imported?

If not you may simply need to associate *.key files with regisrty in your cpanel>default programs>default programs.

You can also right click and use open with (the app should be regedit.exe)

I get the error that windows cannot open this file.. when i try to do a search .. windows keeps showing these websites for software like registry booster and such.
wich i was told, that stuff sort of bad.

I was able to associate it with the regedit.
I am such a dummy with computers.. you were a great help.
