Hello All,

I have the Netgear EX7000 Range Extender in my living room which is set up as an Access Point. The NetGear EX7000 connects via an ethernet cable to my AT&T Residential Gateway (Router) in my office (ethernet cable is in the ceiling). My UVerse Receiver connects to a LAN port on the NetGear EX7000 as does my Yamaha Receiver. I have been having issues with it recently whereby I cannot use the WiFi. I ended up turning everything off and back on again a few times and everything came back up.

I just took another look at the manual and I noted the following:

Note: In access point mode, you can connect your computer or WiFi device to the extender only using a WiFi connection.

Hmmmm... Well, as I mentioned, I have my Uverse Receiver and my Yamaha Receiver are connected to the LAN ports on the NetGear EX7000. Should I buy a swtich and connenct the Ethernet Cable from my ATT Residential Gateway into it vs connecting directly to the NetGear EX7000? I would then connect the EX7000 to a port on the switch and my Uverse Receiver and Yamaha Receiver.

Thanks, Bill

Sounds about right. Let me show an example.

The AP Mesh Netgear is pretty much for WiFi only. Do you have dead spots to warrant its use?

You might be interested in MoCA (Multimedia Over Cable Alliance) stuff. Type that into Amazon once. eBay has good deals on used equipment. But! If you don't use coaxial and use MoCA, make sure the coaxial line into your house is disconnected if there is no MoCA filter on the input otherwise you could interfere with other cable subscribers in your neighborhood.

Tips for WiFI.

If you use 2.4 GHz, set the max bandwidth in the modem if the option exists. Should be 40 MHz. For 5GHz, pick a channel between 36 and 48. Set the bandwidth to 80MHZ if available in the router. I think 160MHz is now possible. Note: This rule is different for businesses that might have more than one wireless router... If you are SOHO (Small Office Home Office) this does not apply.

Thanks for the reply.

My ATT Residential Gateway is in my Office which is at one end of the house. My living room (where Uverse is) and master bedroom is at the other end. We don't have a big house (just under 2000') but the coverage from the ATT Residential Gateway drops enough to warrant the NetGear EX7000.

@F22 Simpilot

Thanks for the confirmation on the Switch. The Uverse is now working without the freezes. I am going to set up the Netgear EX7000 in Extender Mode vs an Access point. I guess I could connect the NetGear EX7000 to an avilable port on the new switch to keep using the EX7000 as an Access Point but I want to keep thing simple.
