I wonder whether the performance decrease when enabling redundant effects is substantial or negligible?

Thanks for the help!

If you are running with Aero on, you won't have a performance problem. Even on Intel Integrated Graphics, it can handle all the eye candy without an issue. As long as you don't bump the resolution up too high.

With 2gb RAM I would be running 32 bit for best performance. And I would edit Visual Effects of animation, sliding, fading, dragging intact. It's just something I do on all installs with weak Processors and/or less than 2gb RAM to assure no hangs - ever.

I let the GPU decide if it can run Aero rather than second guessing it. Aero isn't that big of a resources hit.
