Question for CoA experts

Machine A has Windows 7 Home Premium Retail

Machine B has Windows 7 Ultimate OEM

Can I move W7 Ultimate (machine B) to machine A without running afoul of the MS police? Basically swap OS's between the two computers. I would then use W7 Home Premium on machine B that originally had Ultimate.

I have the retail HP disk and a ISO for Ultimate, also the CoA for both products. I don't want to spend the time swapping to find out it well not fly.

It's from a local system builder that I'm not familiar with. The original owner received a invoice that had the CoA typed in, no disk(s), there was/is a partition containing a restore image.

I understand MS wanting to control copy rights and fight pirating, but it makes it difficult for legitimate owners.

In addition to checking it's Genuine, it should have a COA sticker on the PC if it was legally sold to you with Win7 preinstalled. If the builder did not provide it ask him to do so now. He needs to explain why not.

The COA sticker has a Product Key so that the owner can reinstall as often as desired with same installer provided in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 following those same steps to get a perfect install.

Once you assure it's genuine then I'm afraid it can't be moved without a good excuse provided during reactivation. Is there a good enough chance to go ahead an reinstall Ultimate and attempt activation, then call to see if they'll make an exception? That would have to be up to you. We have frequent reports that they have done this, but it's usually due to a mobo failure or install mistake. The worst they could say is No and then you could continue with it on the build it came on.

Of course you can move retail anyplace you want.
