Hello,

I have a question regarding my windows 7 home premium installation.

When windows 7 was launched and I received my windows 7 home premium upgrade I installed a pirated downloaded copy of windows 7 ultimate on my laptop. I activated it using something called 7loader.

When I received my windows 7 home premium upgrade I installed (clean install) it on laptop an activated using the key.

Before some days I installed ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop inside windows. Now on my linux boot menu I am getting an option for windows which says "loader" in bracket.

Is my copy is still not genuine?

What I can do now?

I have Acronis true image installed. Is it due to it?

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,
MS spends a ton of money trying to stop any kind of fraud. Since you never had a legit copy of Windows, you are not entitled to the upgrade.

Hey Common,

I had windows vista home premium installed on my laptop by manufacturer. And thats how I ordered upgrade DVD. It was just out of excitement I used that pirated one.

I had and have legit copy of windows and thats why I am asking question here.

By d way, instead of being rude you can just ignore my thread.

Looking for some good suggestion.

Thanks,
Alex

I apologize if you thougth that I was rude, that was the last thing on my mind.
In any event, if you did download an illegal copy, that is the last thing that would be shown when you installed the new OS.
When you have an upgrade version, MS knows what you had on prior to the upgrade. In this case it was the illegal copy. I think that it would be in your best interest to call MS and try to work it out with them. The markings in your computer show an illegal copy.
Again, sorry for any misunderstanding

But when I installed I formatted the hard drive and made a clean install and installed it again on it before activating it. Still it will keep previous installation information?

And I have Acronis True Imgae with its boot loader is installed. Does it create problem?

Thanks,
Alex

Hello Alex.

The best thing to do is a wipe of the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) that will over-write all data, make backups first of anything you don't want to lose.

   Information

After you have made backups of everything you care to save and you want to do a real wipe "clean all" to the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) have a look at this tutorial at the link below, it over-writes everything, all the old Windows code including all the old Windows drivers, giving you the best possible space to install Windows 7 to; it goes hand-in-hand with a clean install.

SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Do a Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

I suspect it being a "residue" from the 7 loader IIRC that's one of the methods blocked by kb971033.
So either follow Bare Foot Kid's advice and do a clean install. Or just check your installed updates..if kb971033 is amongst them and your System Information (in Start, right click on Computer, go to properties) still tells you it's genuine, you're good to go. In that case I would remove that entry from the boot menu

I may be wrong, but the install of Ubuntu could be the cause of the word loader appearing in the selection menu - The word loader is userd by Grub or WUBI, (the linux loader) to indicate the windows start-up software.

The previous history of this system is not something I condone at all, but it may not be relevant in this case

It would be nice to see an image of the screen showing the prompt to clarify this - (cell phone or digicam image?)

The new GRUB2 software, which is installed by default in recent Ubuntu versions, automatically generates a boot menu and fills that menu with entries based on the OSs and kernels it finds during an OS probe that it runs.

In the case of Vista and Win7, the entry it creates contains the word "loader" because how it really works is that it simply hands off control to a Windows boot loader. It has nothing to do with the Win7 cracks that use the name "loader".
