Questions about Windows 7 Prefessional

Hello
My present computer has windows 7 home premium 64 bit which is I believe OEM & tied to my specific hardware.
I have been looking at buying the windows 7 professional retail licence. There are many on ebay from sellers with a good reputations selling it. There are no retail shops selling the retail licence, it just seems to be OEM

I want it for several reasons.

Firstly: windows 7 home premium is limited and would like to use more than 16GB of memory and use striped raid software volumes that windows 7 professional does.

Secondly: I obviously want to install it on my present computer to use the features mentioned above.

Thirdly: I plan to upgrade my computer within a couple of years, likely a whole new motherboard, cpu and memory and reinstall the operating system.

The third part is the most important. It is very important that I am not tied to specific hardware with the licence. This is the most important reason for me to buy it.
It will be on one computer at a time obviously.
Is my understanding correct that I can do this?

If I buy it, will install & do updates after 29th July for good reason. I would prefer to pay for the OS rather that the 'free' windows 10.

Thanks

Welcome to our forum ianmozzy.

This is my opinion and little knowledge I have pickup up along the way.

1. I would never buy Windows operating system off of Ebay.

2. Finding a legal Microsoft created DVD with a proper matching COA key for Windows 7 Pro is going to very hard to find. The local supplier I use could not find a warehouse that had one.

3. You could buy two or three Windows 7/64 pro OEM System Builders for what one Retail would cost if you could find a legal one.

4. Watch the prices, they tell a story. Example:

Windows 7/64 Pro (OEM Builders) wholesale is about $125.00 and the retail price is about $140.00. These are Microsoft created DVD and matching COA keys in a sealed Microsoft package.
I'm lucky because I have found a business equipment and computer retailer in town that I have used for over 4 decades and I'm positive I get nothing but legal anything.
Where you buy things is very important. Seem like their are more crooks than good guys.

Because I was in the same dilemma as you are I chose to buy extra Windows 7/64 Pro (OEM System Builders) for use in the future on my new builds.

These are the things I found when I did the research a few months ago when I was looking to the future.

I understand where you are coming from. An OEM is of no good to me as i must be able to install it on a different computer later.
Money is definitely an issue for me right now so need to try to be smart about it. There are sealed ones available on ebay and not cheap. They are in my local city. I am going to ask if I can buy by visiting and get an appropriate receipt. If they refuse, will not do it. I am looking at long term, so have the use of a decent operating system for a long time to come. I do not have a good opinion of windows 8 or 10.

There is also shown on the ebay listing, the box and batch number on the back.

Very interesting. I asked the seller some questions and now the product has suddenly been removed.

Hi,
Yep retail copies of win-7 any version are like bigfoot sightings mostly quick buck and disappear :)
You can usually buy 2-3 oem/ system builders for what legit retail copies were sold for

I'd look for sold and shipped by either Newegg.com or by Amazon and not by any of the third party venders.

I have bought from Amazon venders but I didn't wait a long time before activating it and it did come with dvd and a activation key = Not just a activation key some venders just sell keys which you can count on those as being stolen.

Two of three of my Windows 7 Professional MS-TrueBlue 32/64 pack came from Altex Electronics in Austin TX; Their home store is in San Antonio TX. Perhaps call them and ask if they still have on their shelves the nonOEM retail MS W7Pro packs.

Hi Ian,
I think your best bet is,
Go to your largest computer retailers website from there select refurbished/ex-business machines.
That way you won't get conned.
