I use win7 with auto updates turned off. no trust there anymore for me. my security essentials has stopped updating and i assume its because of updates turned off. i go to microsoft site and get the update file for security essentials about once a week and its about a 105meg file. question is this: is this a cumulative file? because i detete the old download each week after installing the new and when i make backup images each week my file grows about the same as the mse update file. if so, is there a way to uninstall the old mse files if each new one is cumulative? and where do they keep the mse update files? thanks..Clas

You can search your hard drive by searching *.mse and see what that shows. I'm on Win 10 and MSE is now named "Defender". Not sure what the files are called for Windows Defender.

What update(s) don't you trust. You will no longer get upgraded to Win 10, as that is past. I had Win 7 (dual boot with Win 10) until the 1st of December last year and didn't have any problems with updates. I no longer have Win 7 as I built a new system (i7 6700K) and the motherboard does not support Win 7.

Your anti virus program and all it's updates should be on Partition "C" just like Windows 7. Do not delete the anti virus program updates. Their is absolutely no reason to delete them if they are not causing problems and it doesn't matter what anti virus you use.

I manually update MSE several times a day, and yes I keep all the updates.

I've been downloading the mse, and the wd, 32 and 64 bit, data files, and there is no need to disable or uninstall the old data files. Simply download the files, double-click each one and let each data file be installed; takes about 1 minutes+- for each data file.
