Hi All,

OK, I'm win 7 64bit and have been for about a year. My Agility SSD died last week and is in the process of being replaced, so I lost everything.

I backup weekly to another (platter) drive in my box, my last good backup before the 1/1 crash was 12/24. On 1/1 when my box was acting flakey I started a backup and the SSD (C drive) utterly failed part way thru the backup...So I hope I did not overwrite my last good/complete backup done on 12/24 with a partial/junk backup that was part way done when my box crashed...I guess I'll have to wait and see on that....

So anyway, I should get my replacement SSD this coming week and will flash it to latest fw on the wife's pc if it's not already on the latest...Then I figure I'll move it to my box and cross my fingers for a restore working ok....

So do I choose to restore thru the Win7 installation process? Or do I install Win 7 and then choose system restore via Control Panel?

I found a couple tuts, but I can't seem to find one that explains restoring to a totally new drive.

Thanks in advance!

Hello Darren,

It depends on what type of backups you did.

If you did a system image backup, then you could just do a system image recovery at boot to restore everything to the replacement drive (if it's at least as large as the other one) as it was when the image was created.

If you just backed up files without creating a system image, then you will need to reinstall Windows 7 to the new HDD first, and restore the backup files afterwards.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks Shawn...

I'm not sure what kind of backup it was, was setup via Ctrl Panel long ago...

So I guess I'll try to restore image when I 1st boot with the new drive onboard, and if i can't do that I'll install Win7 to the new drive and then try a restore via control panel.

Thanks!
