Solved Quick fix: Removing Grub

Just a simple question for those who have experience. I currently run Arch Linux and Windows 7 on the same hard drive.

I was wondering if anyone has had success with using EasyBCD to remove GRUB that a Linux installation has put on for them.

Did you want Linux in the Windows Boot Manager or to Delete your Linux Install Completely and get rid of GRUB?

I would like to remove Arch completely. I am unable to do anything via the Windows 7 Recovery disc for another few months. I know that if I remove the Arch partition GRUB will remain and give me an error, so I was wondering if EasyBCD was able to remove GRUB and replace it with the Windows 7 bootloader so I could then remove the Linux partition.

You will need a Recovery Disk to Remove Grub

You can create one if you are unable to have access to one - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html

EasyBCD will only add the Bootloader not Delete it in anyway and will cause further problems when coming to Remove the Linux Partition

Once that is done Post back and I will give you the next step on how to remove your Linux Partition

Also Is Arch installed on a partition or Separate HDD?

The main problem I am facing is that I have no blank discs to use, and will not be able to get some for at least a month. That is why I was asking about EasyBCD and its ability to replace the GRUB bootloader with the Windows 7 bootloader.

I only saw the option to "Install the Windows 7/Vista bootloader to MBR" and did not consider the fact that it could not remove GRUB.

Hi Traveosa,

Actaully you can use EasyBCD to get rid of grub.

Just go to the tab 'Bootloader setup'.

Click to select 'install windows 7/vista bootloader to the MBR'

Now click 'Write MBR'

Give the PC a restart and you will be greeted with the Windows bootloader.

Done a this a couple of times in the past and have had no issues.

Okay. I decided that based off of Josh's post that even if it didn't work, I would still have access to GRUB and be able to boot, and based off of Lucky's post, I would be lucky if it did work. I decided to do it, and to my relief, no GRUB!

I was contemplating about doing this for hours, because I have ran into so many problems messing with the Windows Vista/7 MBR. But luckily it worked and am able to boot straight to Windows without GRUB.

I am Glad you got it sorted - You will need to now Format the Partition/Drive that Arch was installed as this will be unusable unless you can restore the GRUB bootloader
