Quick Launch folder issue

I somehow accidently deleted the (default) "Quick Launch" folder in my: "C:\Users\Luc\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer"

So I created a new folder called "Quick Launch" again, and re-added the Quick Launch bar to my Windows taskbar. Now everything works fine and I can add quick launch icons into it, but sometimes after I reboot my laptop all the icons are completely out of order again. So I can put them back in order again (like: 1. Desktop, 2. MSN, 3. Paint) but on the most random moments it gets unsorted again after a reboot. (like: 1. Paint, 2. Desktop, 3. MSN)

Could this be a folder option I forgot to set or is it some bug within my Windows 7 installation?

Note: I never had this on my previous Windows 7 installation, but I never accidently removed my Quick Launch folder there.

You can right click on the quick launch and see if you have the option to lock
If so try it.
If lock does not work, use system restore to go back before you made the error
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html
System Restore is disabled on this laptop, so that's not possible.

What I forgot to mention:
I copied the Quick Launch folder from the default Windows profile: "C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch"

Even that didn't solve it, as far as I know is locking not possible.

I will try the SFC program, but that's the exact same guide that I followed to get myself a Quick Launch bar! :)

I tried the program, it said:

Code:
C:\Windows\System32>sfc /scannow

Systeemcontrole wordt gestart. Dit proces kan enkele minuten duren.

Verificatiefase van systeemscan wordt gestart.
Verificatie is 100% voltooid.

Er zijn geen schendingen van de integriteit gevonden.

C:\Windows\System32>

So it hasn't found anything.

I really am at point that I have just one more suggestion that will definately work, but dont know if you can do it or want to.
By default a system restore point is made on a regular basis, but you turned that feature off.
A system image is also made, but if you turned it off that protection is not there for you. If not use system image to restore quick launch. System Image will affect your stuff, documents etc.

I think you are looking way too much forward/deep. The fact I deleted a system's default folder doesn't mean I have to run a system restore or run an image over it. It surely is the most easy method, but it happens to be that this computer can't be missed at all the coming weeks.

So if there's anyone with an alternative - which maybe is extremely simple - you are more than welcome to share it!

I personally think it has to do with other folders, as soon as I sort on date or size (or whatever) in other folders it seems the quick launch gets messed up. Isn't there a way to isolate this, so that it doesn't change?

This is new information, now. Try this make a new folder, put something in it. Change the date, does a new folder mess up the quick launch, too?

Okay, I just tried this. But seems like I was wrong, the things are still in the exact same order as they were 5 minutes ago before the reboot.

Is there any chance programs can mess this up? Although I'm not running any other programs than before this new Windows 7 installation.

Hello Tendancy,

Here's a copy of the "Quick Launch" folder from my system in a ZIP file. If you like you can download it, extract the "Quick Launch" folder to your Desktop, right click on each shortcut in the folder and click on "Properties", "General" tab and "Unblock", then move it into the "C:\Users\Luc\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer" folder.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I already tried it by making a copy of it from the Default account, but alright I extracted it directly to: "C:\Users\Luc\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer" let me reboot and see what happens.

Nar, you will need to extract the folder to your desktop first, then right click on each shortcut in the folder and click on "Properties", "General" tab and "Unblock", then move it into the "C:\Users\Luc\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer" folder.

If not, you would have to click on the "Open" button everytime you used a shortcut in Quick Launch.

Unblock? It wasn't even blocked, so there was nothing to unblock.

I tried your Quick Launch folder, and it's like completely the same settings-wise. For the rest I don't see why my own folder wouldn't work, and yours would. I can ofcourse copy my current favourites into the Quick Launch folder sent by you.

If the order gets reset again, I will let you know.

May I make a suggestion. Rather than using the tweaked Quick Launch, I suggest you use the toolbars that do exactly the same but are a lot more flexible and offer a lot more options. And a toolbar is repaired in a couple of minutes should something happen. If you have a minute, watch my little video tutorial and you will see. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/72092-toolbars-how-use-windows-7-vista.html

I appreciate your suggestion, and I will definitely look into it. But at first I want my Quick Launch to be fixed without having to do a restore or a system reset. I have a feeling that it's a specific option within my Quick Launch folder.

If not, I'm kinda lost! :P

Okay since there aren't any solutions available on the internet, I had to find one myself. Well I found one, hope it lasts long enough! :) This is how they look like when sorted automatically..
