Just curious, I'd like to yet (again) reinstall W7 on my Samsung NC10 netbook. Right now, I have 32bit (obviously) build 7229.

What is the latest 32 bit leak and is it an RTM build that cannot use RC keys? How long does the RTM version last and can they easily be re-armed, without any hacks/cracks or such?

Its important for me to know, I'm going away for a month and need to make sure my PC isn't locked up after x amount of days :P

Okay to answer you questions...
1. Latest RTM build is 7264 x86 (32-bit)
2. It cannot use RTM keys but can rearmed three times (up to 120 days)
3. By that time than Windows 7 will be on the shelves

From 7100 you should notice some notable improvements in performance and overall system stablity (alot of them bugs have been squashed:p)

Anyone have tips on fully optimizing a netbook?

My Specs:
Samsung NC10 (Atom 1.6GHz)
2GB Memory
160GB 5400RPM Drive (sucks, I know)

And, eventually later today the W7 7264 build.

The only optimizations I can think of are:
- disable defender
- disable defragmenter scheduler
- defrag the drive
- and if I recall correctly, disable paging

I would leave on paging but keep it at 512MB-1GB.

I would also use Windows 7 Basic theme and set Windows to be in performance mode (right click on computer->properties->Advanced system settings->first settings box->Adjust for best performance.

With such a low amount of ram I wouldn't recommend disabling the paging... Granted if you don't do much with the netbook then disabling the pagefile won't hurt you.

Thanks for the tips.

What about optimizing Firefox, in general or perhaps for a netbook? Its brutal on my netbook, but really I need to use it over the other options because of various plugins that I need (including Roboform).

I'm aware of Advanced System Care which is free and Tweak Network (or Fasterfox/Fasterfox Lite).

PS: does anyone know if ReadyBoost actually works, and if it does would I even notice a difference during typical work (browser, media, emails)?

I do have a RB USB drive.

Readyboost works with people who have low memory in their computers. If you have a 4GB flash drive or above and it is compatibile with the feature than you will notice a performace increase
