I know i am very late but better late than never. I am just an occasional user who relies on Seven forums for help so i don't know Gary at all but i will say when i did need help he was always so friendly and welcoming to me .

My deepest condolences to his family and many friends.

With that being said and not knowing what caused his passing i wanted to say a few things.

I don't think it's any secret that there is a huge number of fatal heart attacks that occurs in people in their 30's and 40's , you would think how can that be , so young .

Well thats the problem , being so young makes many of us think we don't have to worry about it and maybe that checkup isn't necessary.

Don't make this mistake , i have personally lost four people that i currently knew or have known over the years pass and the reason , mostly clogged arteries due to high cholesterol, only one was over 50 years of age.

If you don't get evaluated and get bloodwork checked for yourself, please do it for the others who may rely on you . Three of the people i knew had a wife and children and being stubborn led to at least two unnecessary early deaths.

Young guys who didn't watch what they ate and drank and it caught up with them , very very sad .

Thats really all i wanted to say , if your the "no doctors i'm too young type", swallow your pride and do it for your loved ones , it really can save your life.

Yes well Jonny mate he was a good friend of mine and yes I work in health and yes you are on the money with what you say but after 40+ years as an RN I can say it only matters for as long as the memory lasts, in general humans are only concerned with health when something goes wrong - it is never going to happen to me attitude rules, as does non compliance with what one advises.

I really get very angry when I see people smoking and drinking even in moderation and then front up with all sorts of disorders and expect one to wave a magic wand over them.

I too smoked until I was 24 and drank to excess while I suffered severe depression - until I got very sick and in hindsight realize what a numbskull I really was thinking it was helping me.

Sadly it is a case of leading a horse to water and then trying to make it drink.

My other beef is that the governments around the world are not really interested in your or my health they are only concerned with the tax dollars they have to spend to look after individuals when they get sick and that is sick in itself:sarc:

PS Rant over!!

Yes Tone I was trying to make a point there while I had the opportunity as that age group are probably the most likely to not do the right thing in their lifestyle.

I agree with everything you said 100% , easily preventable but the" invincibility" attitude of younger males catches up to quite a few of them .

I could see how you might of thought that , i saw his pic and knew he wasn't 30 but my comments made it easy to take it that way.

Actually it was just finding out he passed that spurred me to post my comments on getting checked out, especially the ego driven younger guys , i was the same way .

When i was in my mid 30's i decided to get checked and very happy i did , my cholesterol was through the roof , blood consistency like syrup .

Definitely would not have made it to my late 40's today if i didn't do that imo.

Thanks for your comments.

Gary is still very much missed here. He was here nearly as much as I am and always reliable to give good help. We had ongoing daily communication that left no doubt I have a close and loyal friend here, which is no longer the case. I feel very alone and unappreciated now which was never the case when Gary was there to reassure me. He knew about my PTSD and how crippling it can be, and how my forums work has stabilized it.

I was proud to help get Gary awarded a deserved MVP and was crushed to lose him so soon after he got the highest award in the tech field. When his other sponsor-MVP Rayda called after we got the news, we both couldn't even speak.

I think I have told the story earlier about the time my roommate's Dad's PC hard drive failed according to some tests but not others. Gary confirmed it was best to replace. Then almost as soon as I opened it the PSU went south, which made my self-doubts about working with hardware even greater. Gary walked me through testing the PSU online and on the phone, advised me on the best replacements to order for HD and PSU.

The day Amazon delivered Gary was waiting by the phone to walk me through installing the PSU into the impossibly cramped Slimline case. I probably could have managed but just having him there double checking everything with me was greatly reassuring, and that HP is still alive today even after it's owner and Gary have passed.

Just in case you don't know Gary was 65 and not 30. He chose the number 30 as part of his avatar. Like I said just in case you thought he was only 30.
65 is still too young.

65 Years old? Wow. He is still young to die.

I agree. I'm pushing 66 and it floored me when we got the sad news. I still think about him and miss him whenever I'm here.

Nice story Greg , you never stop missing somebody who was close , the pain subsides somewhat with time but the missing part never does.

As far as feeling under appreciated , join the club my friend , in real life , most do feel that way . It's the old saying along the lines of "a boss always remembers the bad things but never seems to remember the good things" that you do , thats life , nobody claims it's fair.

I know you have been here a long time and have helped countless people , your tutorials are always well done (although always over my head) though i should note that major success to me is getting past the log in screen in under 20 min.

Thanks for your comments

It really is , nobody should be passing that early , heredity, family history and how you take care of yourself play a huge role in that though.

But 65 , you see this is why i think the retirement age should be 30 , what a raw deal that is , busted ass your entire life and the day you retire you expire , thats just BS on the highest level .

I want some type of guarantee
