Previously to today, I had the same Radeon but bought a Panasonic TC-50PS64 50" Plasma TV. I can get my desktop to appear on the TV via HDMI but can't get any sound. The previous TV was a 32" Sharp. Everything worked as expected but the Sharp was 720p vs 1080p for the Panasonic.

I've read posts where people had problems with the 600hz refresh but I don't have that particular problem. I tested Firefox running Amazon Prime Videos, Netflix and YouTube. All ran the same. Viewable screen but no sound. The TV portion works with sound and Netflix via Wi-Fi works, just not HDMI from the desktop.

Anyone have a clue how I can fix this?

If it worked before, with a different TV, and now does not work with the new TV, I would suspect a problem with the TV and not the PC. Does the TV have more than one HDMI input? If it does change to a different HDMI port and see if that works.

Fixed. The fix is one of those bizarre procedures that bring back Ol' Time Voodoo. First, once I got the desktop on the TV, I pulled the HDMI cable from the TV and waited 3 seconds, plugged it back in. I was then able to enable the sound and everything worked. Weird. But, I now have a fully working desktop on my 50" Plasma.
